Summary

The Director of Clinical Education, Abrazo will be responsible for ensuring the growth and success of a clinical education partnership between Midwestern University (all programs and both campuses) and the Abrazo Health system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with Abrazo Administration and Midwestern University to ensure that both parties are meeting the academic responsibilities outlined in Affiliation Agreements with the University.

  • Advise Abrazo Administration and the University regarding the appropriate responsibilities to be contained in Educational Affiliation Agreements both for the hospital and the University ensuring that the students have the appropriate resources necessary for high quality education.

  • Work with Abrazo Administration to recruit qualified preceptors to meet the academic commitments of Abrazo in relationship to their Affiliation Agreements with University.

  • Screen appropriate students who meet the academic requirements of Abrazo in relationship to the affiliation Agreement with the University.

  • Make recommendations to the University regarding which students should be included in the cohort assigned to Abrazo.

  • Work with the coordinators to ensure an appropriate distribution of students throughout the Abrazo system.

  • Provide feedback to preceptors within Abrazo regarding their performance.

  • Attend University meetings (as assigned) to ensure that they are fully informed regarding the academic performance and requirements for students at Abrazo.

  • Oversee the student experience and foster a climate that enhances community and student growth.

  • Address any disciplinary or academic issues that arise with students on the Abrazo Campuses and ensure the University is aware and engaged in those issues as they arise.

  • Provide proactive and responsive one-on-one and group-based student support ensuring a balance in academic lectures on the Abrazo Campuses that complement University based didactic lectures.

  • Attend GME Program Director Meetings to represent the needs of the Medical Education Program(s) in Abrazo.

  • Maintain communication with the University Programs regarding the necessary support to ensure high quality education and experience for their students at Abrazo facilities.

  • Work in collaboration with the University and Abrazo Health System to create a rotation schedule taking into consideration all requirements under the affiliation agreements and the academic needs of the students as well as the GME needs of the Abrazo Residency Programs.

This position has no supervisor responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

This position requires a D.O. or M.D. degree with a strong understanding of the healthcare industry, with knowledge of clinical education trends and best practices preferred. Previous experience in graduate medical education is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have experience cultivating and managing partnerships in the healthcare or higher education industry. Previous experience with clinical education programs and student rotations working in the healthcare or academic setting is preferred.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
