Director of Choirs and Vocal Studies in Music

POSITION: Western Colorado University invites applications for a Lecturer position as Director of Choirs and Vocal Studies beginning August 2024.

General area of specialization is conducting our two choirs, teaching applied voice lessons, teaching vocal methods, and additional courses as required by the department. This might include class piano, music GE courses, music history, applied guitar lessons, music industry, or music theory.

These secondary teaching areas will depend on the candidate's areas of expertise and experience teaching these subjects. Teaching load is 30 credits per academic year, with the possibility for reassign time to assist with program recruitment and development. There is also the opportunity to develop and deliver innovative courses in their area of expertise.

The Music Department at Western Colorado University has 3 full-time faculty members and approximately 20 Majors and three emphases: Music Education, Music Industry, and Comprehensive Music. We are looking for innovative, forward-thinking faculty to help modernize our music program offerings.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should possess a MM (DMA or PhD in relevant field preferred) or equivalent degree in choral conducting, vocal education, or voice. Evidence of teaching excellence and a demonstrated ability to work collegially in a student-centered learning environment while building relationships with external constituents that benefit students is required.

SALARY/BENEFITS Salary range is $50,000 - $53,000 per year. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.

START DATE: August 16, 2024.
