The Sterile Processing Director is responsible for all department functions in support of the hospital mission, vision and facility goals. Provides leadership, clinical expertise, and functional direction to Sterile Processing Manager, Supervisors and staff to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Evaluates quality of department practices in relation to established professional and legal standards. Functions as Director and subject matter expert related to standards of practice for sterile processing with oversight for all areas where decontamination of instrumentation, reprocessing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and other items used in surgery/procedural areas occurs. Manages competently and cooperatively with other leaders and staff to promote and ensure effect and timely turnover and support of all needed items and effectively manages to achieve targets and department and organizational strategic goals.

  • Five years of Surgical Services or Sterile Processing Management experience.

  • Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of financial implications of materials, equipment, and human resources

  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of sterile processing and current practice, AORN standards for sterile processing, AMII sterilization guidelines, JCAHO and OSHA compliance

About the Job As part of the multidisciplinary team, this position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sterilization and functioning of equipment and surgical instrumentation. A successful team member in this position is a team player, flexible with changes, clear communicator and is comfortable working independently. Some Highlighted Responsibilities * Responsible for decontamination and cleaning of all equipment and instrumentation; ensures cleanliness and sterility of all instruments * Accurately assembles instruments sets based on established count sheets, including single packed items * Ensures sterilization is completed appropriately based on the manufacturer's Instructions for Use (IFU) * Maintains sterilization records for various sterilization methods * Assists in maintenance and inventory of equipment throughout the hospital * Rounds throughout hospital to collect patient equipment and instrumentation for processing * Daily workload varies based on urgent and emergent surgeries and hospital volume * Services include: ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastics, General Surgery, Urology, GI, Dental, Spine, and Hem/Onc. * Weekend and holiday call is required averaging one weekend/month and one holiday per year Shift/Location: Saturday and Sunday, 7:00am to 5:30pm, Plano, TX Experience Two years of Sterile Processing experience preferred Education High school diploma Licenses & certifications Required: Central Sterile Processing Certification within one year of hire Preferred: Central Sterile Processing Certification upon hire Benefits Children's Health offers opportunities for learning and career development; competitive pay; and a comprehensive benefits program.
