Definition of Class

This position oversees and directs the activities of the Career Services Office. The incumbent develops and supervises career planning and recruitment programs for students and alumni; plans and implements marketing strategy for identifying a diverse group of potential employers; and participates in scholarship selection and coordinates scholarship awards. Incumbent supervises office staff and exercises discretion and independent judgment on a regular basis.

The School of Business Administration at The University of Mississippi, Oxford campus, seeks qualified applicants for an administrative position that will focus on helping undergraduate business students maximize their potential for success in the job market and in their post-baccalaureate positions. The position involves a high level of autonomy and discretion, and requires a person with dependability, creativity, and genuine concern for the future success of students. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, well developed interpersonal skills, and a high level of familiarity with and knowledge of social media resources are essential. This is a full-time position that requires a normal work schedule of 8-5 M-F with normal holiday and vacation paid leave.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Manage Careers staff in the School of Business, providing leadership and guidance including training, performance appraisals, professional development, and related personnel matters.

  • Manage the Careers Office to ensure efficient, timely and effective programs and services to its users.

  • Create and execute events and programs for all undergraduate business students that enhance their knowledge of and preparation for successful job search strategies.

  • Plan, develop, and conduct programs, workshops, career fairs, and presentations to enhance students' career opportunities and preparedness.

  • Creatively market career planning services to business students and employers.

  • Develop and maintain effective social media strategies to communicate with students, parents and employers about career-related topics.

  • Coordinate with the staff of the University's Career Center to enhance business students' knowledge and use of their services and resources.

  • Serve on the university's Career Council, setting strategies for Careers across the university.

  • Develop and manage a mentoring program that puts our undergraduate students with professionals to enhance their career readiness.

  • Responsible for career outcomes. Survey, track and report data for accreditation and prospective students.

  • Work with Development on fundraising for the Business School Careers Office.

  • Evaluate and develop badging or micro-credentialing as appropriate.

  • Participate in professional development activities to ensure professional growth and knowledge needed to provide effective leadership and program development.

  • Teach one section of BUS 271 each fall and spring semester. May be face-to-face or online.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Directs the daily activities of the Career Services Office.

  • Develops and implements career planning and recruitment programs.

  • Provides career counseling to students/alumni and assists in obtaining positions.

  • Identifies potential employers and maintains ongoing relationships.

  • Awards scholarships to incoming and current students.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Substitution Statement:

Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master's degree in a related field from an accredited U.S. institution
