The primary objective of Career Services is to assist students and graduates in securing employment by developing industry relationships, communicating opportunities, developing and facilitating employer onsite events and providing career related advisement. The Director of Career Services is responsible for the delivery of services and outcomes that support the primary objective of the Career Services Department. The three main focuses of the position include industry-employer outreach matched to student/graduate job search needs, career coaching and advisement on career skills, and documentation of graduate employments following all policies and procedures. The Director of Career Services works directly with students, alumni and employers with the purpose of successfully attaining their career aspirations and employment goals. The Director of Career Services directly manages Career Service Advisors (if applicable) at the campus level and reports to the Campus Director and their Functional Manager the Associate Dean of Career Services. This is an on-campus position.

Director of Career Services Duties and Responsibilities

Employer Outreach

  • Builds and maintains an extensive network of industry and employer partnerships.

  • Maintain regular contact with employers to develop cooperative partnerships including, but not limited to, identifying viable job opportunities, career fair participation, employer spotlights, and advisory board membership, etc.

  • Strategically participate in multiple industry networking functions that may develop into beneficial relationships to support students and graduate success.

  • Assist employers in facilitating the hiring process: contacting students, graduates for interviews.

Student and Graduate Coaching

  • Advise students, graduates and alumni on career services skills including: job search strategies, career planning, networking, resume and portfolio development, and interviewing.

  • Identify appropriate resumes for job leads and facilitate introductions of students/graduates and employers.

  • Conduct pre-graduation Exit Interviews with each upcoming graduate individually.

  • Conduct workshops on resume writing, interviewing, job search techniques and other career related topics.

  • Management of career fairs and employer visits.

  • Facilitate best practice trainings for Career Services staff (if Applicable) on student and graduate coaching.

  • Assist in the program advisory committee meetings.

  • Participate in new student orientation, open house, graduation ceremonies and others as assigned.

Employment Assistance and Compliance

  • Achieve all accreditation minimum employment percentages requirements by program.

  • Development and communication of new job opportunities.

  • Maintain relationships with graduates through consistent communication. Oversees data entry process and performs monthly audits on employment data for the campus.

  • Ensure appropriate documentation is collected to support reported graduate employment or waiver statuses which meets the requirements of all regulatory bodies.

  • Ensure regular use of the official student database system to report student/graduate contact activity, employer contact activity, job opportunities, & employment verifications.

  • Upload regulatory career services documents into the official student database system.

  • Work closely with the third-party verification company to meet all regulatory requirements regarding graduate employment verifications.

  • Follow all SAE policies and procedures.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the National Director of Career Services.

  • Responsible for consistent meetings with Career Service Advisors assigned to your team (if applicable).

Director of Career Services Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in higher education or audio industry preferable; or 4-6 years experience in full cycle recruiting, consultative sales preferable.

  • Develop, monitor, and achieve metrics related to employment, employer partnerships, and completion outcomes to meet organizational objectives

  • Must be willing to accommodate flexible hours, including working evening hours.

  • Willing to represent the school honestly and ethically and in a professional manner.

  • Managing workflow: Excellent organizational, time management and attention to detail skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications for MAC.

  • Communicating: Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Learning & Adapting: Ability to manage and adapt to working with individuals of various backgrounds.

  • Maximizing Resources: Ability to think creatively and provide solutions with available resources.

  • Quality & Customer Focus: Provides excellent customer service and attention to accurate record keeping.

  • Ability to work effectively in diverse environment with stakeholders including but not limited to employers, hiring partners, students, instructors, and team members

Desirable Skills

  • Strategic mindset with ability to develop and execute on goals, objectives, and operations

  • Strong working knowledge of technological systems as they apply to instructional, administrative, and workplace needs to include Campus Nexus.

Director of Career Services Additional Information

Sitting for long periods. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper, occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials. Moving from place to place within the organization, minimal reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
