Position Name: Director of Campus Facilities and Security

Classification: Exempt. Benefitted

FTE: Full time

Work Hours: Variable: In general M-F 8am-4pm

Department/Division: Facilities

Supervisor: Executive Vice President

2.POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Campus Facilities and Security holds a pivotal role in coordinating, developing, and overseeing all aspects of the university's physical infrastructure, safety protocols, and security measures. Responsible for directing facilities management operations and planning, as well as providing management and oversight of the university's safety and security strategy and staff, this multifaceted position requires strong leadership, operational planning, and collaboration skills. From establishing procedures for maintenance, repair, and replacement of campus facilities and grounds to enforcing fire and safety policies and procedures, the Director ensures a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. With a focus on effective management of campus facilities, emergency preparedness, and safety protocols, the Director plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall well-being and functionality of the university community.

4.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic and Operational Planning:

  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans for campus facilities and safety initiatives, aligning with the university's goals.

  • Evaluate infrastructure needs and identify opportunities for improvement to support academic and administrative functions.

  • Partner with university leadership to develop and implement capital and space management plans.

  • Oversee the management of campus rental processes.

  • Facilities Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and renovation of campus buildings, grounds, and utilities to ensure safe and functional facilities.

  • Coordinate with campus departments, vendors, and contractors to address facility-related issues promptly and efficiently.

  • Manage capital improvement projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and quality control measures.

  • Partner with university departments to provide facilities support for university events and meetings.

  • Safety and Security:

  • Develop and enforce campus safety policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Maintain and update a comprehensive safety plan, emergency notification procedures, and processes for facility opening and lock-down.

  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, and emergency responders to develop emergency response plans and conduct regular drills and training exercises.

  • Implement and manage security measures, such as surveillance systems, access control, and emergency notification systems, to enhance campus safety.

  • Ensure compliance with the Clery Act, including timely and accurate reporting.

  • Serve as a liaison between the university and local authorities, neighborhood associations, and other stakeholders to promote safety.

  • Risk Management:

  • Assess potential safety and security risks on campus and develop risk mitigation strategies to prevent incidents, accidents, injuries, and property damage.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of campus facilities to identify hazards, ensure compliance with safety standards, and address any deficiencies.

  • Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, including forecasting expenses, allocating resources, and monitoring expenditures.

  • Assist in the creation and management of capital budgets.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements to maximize the effectiveness of campus facilities and safety programs.

7.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Education & Training: High school diploma/G.E.D

Certifications & Licenses: Driver license, OSHA 30 cert

Experience: Eight (8 years) of experience with facilities management, campus safety, security, and overall physical plant operations

Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Three (3) years of campus operations management experience including advanced skills in construction project management, property management, contracting, technical analysis, and budgeting; Strong understanding of building systems and energy management systems; Minimum of three (3) years of direct supervisory experience.

Preferred

Education & Training: High school diploma/G.E.D Bachelors Degree

Experience: 10+ years of experience with facilities management, security, and overall physical plant operations

Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Five (5) years of campus operations management experience including advanced skills in construction project management, property management, contracting, technical analysis, and budgeting; Strong understanding of building systems and energy management systems; Minimum of five (5) years of direct supervisory experience
