Job Summary

The Director of Campus Engagement strengthens Krannert Center for the Performing Arts' academic interconnectivity by further integrating the Center's work into the academic culture and curriculum through campus-based engagement activities that ensure student participation. The Director of Campus is committed to equity, inclusion and anti-racist practices, broadening opportunities and ensuring participation of the University of Illinois' diverse campus. The Director of Campus Engagement is collaboratively responsible for aligning engagement initiatives with the mission of the Center, developing priorities, allocating resources appropriately, and designing and implementing effective systems for team collaboration, with particular responsibility for campus academic engagement and student engagement with Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. This position also serves as the Engagement Department's "access liaison" working in collaboration with Krannert Center staff and others to ensure best practices for accessible performances.

Duties & Responsibilities

Engagement

  • Serve as a member of the core Engagement Office team contributing to the planning and implementation of artist engagement activities.

  • Serve as the course administrator for the course FAA 110: Exploring Arts and Creativity. Project management responsibilities include course logistics and organization, faculty recruitment and coordination, syllabus and curriculum development (in collaboration with faculty teams), and assessments and documentation.

  • Manage all preliminary, current, and ongoing aspects of FAA 110, including communication with the Office of the Registrar: FMS (Facility Management and Scheduling) and campus units funding restricted sections.

  • Coordinate the strategizing, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of engagement activities, with particular responsibility for academic and campus engagement (including intellectual and administrative program oversight, program development and execution, budget design and management, documentation and assessment, coordination of facilities and staff, and extensive contact with University and external constituencies)

  • Coordinate collaborations with cultural houses and other student, campus groups furthering student engagement opportunities with Krannert Center

  • Advise/mentor Krannert Center student groups and participate in the structuring of current student organizations currently known as the Krannert Center Ambassadors and the Krannert Center Student Association

  • Liaison to the Ikenberry Residential Arts Program

  • Coordinate collaborations with faculty throughout the university and the Department of Fine and Applied Arts

  • Recruit and supervise interns to assist Engagement staff in carrying out their duties.

  • Serve as the programming and engagement department's access liaison by researching best practices and collaborating with Krannert Center for Performing Arts' communications, ticketing and front of house staff as well as outside contractors on access initiatives including sensory friendly performances, signed performances, and other initiatives that increase access at the center.

  • Work includes communication, coordination, and collaboration; data entry and database management; and event planning, attendance, and evaluation.

Administrative, Personnel, and Committee work

  • Serve as a member of the Krannert Center engagement team, which includes collaborative brainstorming, planning, implementation, and evaluation of various engagements, communications, initiatives and events.

  • Participate in various committees and initiatives on a volunteer and assigned basis, at Krannert Center, in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and/or at the campus level.

  • Collaborate and build positive working relationships with faculty and staff of the resident academic departments of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

  • Collaboratively manage the budget allocated to the Engagement Office at Krannert Center.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A total of three 3 years (36 months) education, training and/or work experience in the areas of arts education, community outreach, engagement, organizing, the performing arts, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in a discipline related to humanities, social sciences, education (specifically arts education), and/or the performing arts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess and be able to put into action a passion for connecting people with performing arts experiences.

  • Must have intellectual curiosity, a passion for collaboration and inclusivity, and appreciation of the comprehensive diversity across domains on campus.

  • Must have excellent public relations, interpersonal, teamwork, communication, planning, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Must have project management skills, including the ability to understand objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, and plan steps in order to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful and timely manner.

  • Must be professional, flexible, and respectful in all work with colleagues and patrons.

  • Must use good independent judgment and be able to resolve problems as they arise, managing time pressures and changing or conflicting priorities.

  • Working knowledge of a language (or languages) in addition to English.

  • Cultural competency with historically marginalized groups.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of this search. The salary range for this position begins at $70,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
