Job Description

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Business Operations is responsible for the immediate supervision of all financial aspects and operations of the school; including the immediate supervision of business operations personnel; Quality Assurance Manager; SPED Manager; District Relations Manager and WIOA Manager; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under direct supervision of the Superintendent, performs financial work involved with all aspects of the school's financial operations.

  • Immediate supervision of financial accounting and reporting conducted by outside vendor.

  • Develops, coordinates and monitors the school's budgets and projections.

  • Oversees financial records and accounts and submits reports in a timely manner to other agencies and the Board

  • Responsible for Vendor RFP and Vendor Relations for charter.

  • Works with accounting and school business vendor to ensure that financial documents are accurate and adhere to legal and procedural requirements.

  • Responsible for the purchasing and distributing of supplies, equipment, services and insurance.

  • Responsible for property accounting, inventory records, and warehouse control.

  • Reviews warrant payments for supplies, equipment, or services that have been approved by the Board.

  • Supervises assigned employees responsible for a variety of tasks including Quality Assurance Manager; SPED Manager, District Relations Manager, WIOA Manager, and business operations personnel.

  • Establishes and implements procedural steps to insure sound and efficient business practices in accordance with applicable law.

  • Serves as staff advisor to the school principals on problems related to business operations.

  • Develops, organizes and recommends fiscal policies, goals and programs for the school.

  • Provides information relating school operations to the Superintendent, the Board and general public as needed.

  • Supervises school risk management program and maintains and coordinates property/liability insurance.

  • Responsible for school facilities, leases, security, vandalism and loss prevention.

  • Administers and maintains any operational agreements and contracts vendor contracts.

  • Ensures student data is collected properly and student portfolios meet quality assurance requirements.

  • Works closely with district liaisons to continue the school summer program.

  • Ensures summer programs are secured and marketing campaigns developed, debrief on successes and improvements on summer program and grow new markets.

  • Oversees hiring, training, development and supervision of any summer support staff.

  • Oversees any strategic plans for growing and implementing new charters and renewing current ones.

  • Ensures enrollments and growth targets are being met (oversee work with any consultants).

  • Develops, fosters and maintains positive relationships with District administrators, consultants and the public concerning school business matters.

  • Oversees WIOA, PTR Compliance and AP Mentorship program.

  • Oversees any sports and extracurricular forms/logistics.

  • Oversees any events as needed.

  • Represents the school in the supervision of any building construction.

  • Analyzes and, where necessary, promotes legislation beneficial to the school's fiscal and operational aspects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of laws, rules and guidelines affecting the administration of a public-school business operations department.

  • Ability to analyze and make recommendations regarding business operations practices.

  • Knowledge of current laws, policies and regulations.

  • Ability to organize, control and retrieve information.

  • Ability to analyze and utilize financial records in making decisions.

  • Ability to utilize computer data to control expenditures and cash flow.

  • Knowledge of laws, policies and regulations relating to personnel.

  • Knowledge of required job skills and background requirements for each position being filled.

  • Ability to assess staffing needs.

  • Ability to understand evaluation techniques; judging weaknesses and strengths of individuals.

  • Ability to organize and delegate.

  • Overall knowledge of school site operations, including facilities planning, construction and financing.

  • Knowledge of building codes, general accounting, Board policies and regulations and other federal, state and local laws.

  • Ability to deal effectively with vendors, awareness of product quality, knowledge of purchasing/receiving techniques and control.

  • Knowledge of school purchasing procedures and the legal aspects of purchasing.

  • Ability to drive a car.

  • Exemplary communication skills that will demonstrate the ability to write and verbally present clear and concise management, finance and related reports.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Valid Teaching credential (required)

  • Administrative Services Credential (required)

  • Experience in managing financial and statistical records.

  • Experience in a leadership position with increasing responsibility that includes personnel supervision and evaluation.

  • Demonstrates personal qualifications generally recognized as essential for good public employees including integrity, initiative, dependability, courtesy, good judgement, work cooperatively and provide leadership in the area of business services.

Salary Range:

$150,000 - $190,000 Depending on Experience
