Director of Bot Hardware Engineering

Full Time - Exempt

As the Director of Bot Hardware Engineering for Alert Innovation, you will lead new product development teams to deliver highly innovative robotics and automation solutions. You lead by example and take ownership of managing highly complex, technical projects being developed by a diverse group of engineering talents. As the lead for multiple hardware projects, you will partner with world-class corporate partners to lead a team to invent, design, develop and transition products to manufacturing.

You have demonstrated technical depth and effective leadership skills. You have experience mentoring, developing consensus and accountability, defining work processes, and developing / driving schedules to help your team stay aligned, appropriately prioritized, and working efficiently. You are equally comfortable as a leader, technical contributor, and mentor in a growing team.

In this role, you will lead a cross-functional technical team through the complete development cycle to invent, design, develop, and release to manufacturing complex electromechanical based projects. How you will lead:

  • Provide high level technical and people leadership to project teams
  • Develop and maintain hardware technical vision leveraging input from customers, vendors, or other technical or non-technical stakeholders
  • Investigate new technologies
  • Drive delivery of aggressive goals by managing project schedule, product features and performance, cost and resources effectively through a phase-gate process
  • Collect and drive improvement in metrics related to quality, efficiency, on time delivery
  • Work with others to build and maintain schedules, keep team aware of dependencies and target milestones
  • Identify and communicate risks and associated mitigations
  • Work closely with the product team lead to manage ever-changing customer priorities
  • Provide clarity regarding standard work (develop guidelines, templates, processes, etc)
  • Partner with the software teams to document and detail hardware requirements
  • You are passionate about technical / leadership challenges, and eager to broaden your skillset
  • You can leverage the collective intelligence of a team and develop meaningful consensus
  • You know how to define and maintain project plans that simultaneously drive innovation and continuous improvement

What do you need?

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering Discipline (preferably mechanical or related) with a minimum of 10 years leading cross-functional product development teams solving challenging technical projects.
  • Experience developing and bringing high volume electro-mechanical products to market, skilled in DFM, DFT.
  • Direct experience leading projects from initial concept through design and release. Must have experience successfully managing schedule, budget and project resources.
  • Exceptional project management and communication skills written and verbal - are essential.
  • High energy, drive, commitment, self-initiative and perseverance are required with a demonstrated track record of personal technical accomplishments.
  • Prior experience with solid modeling, including drawing preparation. (CREO preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge of standard drafting process and ASMEY14.5, Geometric Tolerancing & Dimensioning.
  • Ability to successfully work in a collaborative team environment and constructively influence team decisions
  • Demonstrated servant leader, experience transitioning individual contributors to successful leads
  • Self-motivated and capable of working through ambiguity
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical/problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
