Director -- Bank Operations

The Director of Bank Operations will lead an operations team of 200+ associates, which delivers efficient, compliant and customer-centric operations. This role leads, manages and develops high performing teams and provides guidance on a variety of banking operations functions. This role will be instrumental in driving operational efficiency through technology-based solutions, implementing structure to ensure a high delivery of service, while working alongside technologists, retail executives, branch managers, product managers, and other key business partners. This enterprise leader will build and operate shared operational capabilities, such as document and content management, for all business units, with both internal and third-party resources.

The Director of Bank Operations will ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory standards, stays current with banking industry trends, demonstrates superior, inclusive people leadership and a working knowledge of how to run a successful retail banking operation.


The Director of Bank Operations will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of a retail and commercial bank operations organization (Loan Operations, Treasury and Deposit Operations, Enterprise Document and Records Management) that enables excellent customer experiences

  • Attract, recruit and retain top, diverse talent driven towards continuous improvement and excellence

  • Lead and manage a team of new and experienced operations leaders and associates

  • Lead development and implementation of policies and procedures for Bank Operations and shared enterprise services.

  • Partner with Analysts, Product Managers, Technology, and Risk leaders to develop and implement processes that achieve improved customer experiences

  • Ensure key operational metrics and performance targets are met

  • Ensure compliance and regulatory requirements are met

  • Employ next-generation process design principles to create great customer experiences while eliminating unnecessary functions and operations. Replace excessive craftsmanship with process engineering.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant Military Experience.

  • At least 8 years of experience in retail bank or financial services industry and/or experience in leading complex fulfillment and service logistics functions in a regulated industry such as healthcare. Candidates who lack deep financial services experience should be able to demonstrate a evidence of a fast learning curve high adaptability.

  • At least 8 years of experience in leading operations

  • At least 5 years of experience leading a geographically dispersed organization with internal and third-party resources (experience working with offshore teams strongly preferred)

  • Proven ability to lead, inspire and empower large operations teams

  • Proven ability to collaboratively redesign enterprise processes (including upstream and downstream operations) to drive efficiency and improved customer experience.

  • Proven ability to set a vision, develop a strategy, translate it into simple action plans, execute the plans and deliver the promised results while maintaining positive working relationships with peers, subordinates and other stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to anticipate operational and personnel problems and solve them before they impact organizational performance.

  • Insatiable curiosity, an open mind and a desire to build something great.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or MBA

  • Experience leading in an environment using Agile methodologies

  • Cross-functional experience within financial services (e.g. branch management, call center)

  • 8+ years of experience in a banking operations leadership role

  • 8+ years of experience leading large functionally-diverse teams that are geographically dispersed

  • Experience overseeing and managing multi-site operations; including third party vendor management and offshore operations
