Summary of Job Duties:

This position works under the general supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement. Duties include, but are not limited to: advancing private philanthropy to support student scholarships, program operations, capital projects, research projects, and all other academic endeavors at UAM by researching potential and current donors, cultivating relationships with prospective donors, writing and presenting fundraising proposals, creating captivating fundraising projects with other team members, serving as the principal writer, editor and project manager for engaging fundraising campaigns, working to establish relationships with national foundations that may support UAM's teaching and research endeavors, coordinating proper recognition and publicity for gifts, directing the University's liaison efforts with alumni and former students; planning and implementing programs and events for alumni and other University constituents such as Homecoming, alumni trips, and local and out-of-town receptions; updating alumni and development webpages with fresh and accurate content; communicating with alumni and friends via telephone, mail, email, personal interaction and social media; developing articles/news for publication for alumni magazine and electronic newsletter; maintaining and updating alumni records/files/databases and overseeing preparation and distribution of mailings; assisting in fundraising; making fundraising presentations; planning and directing the annual phonathon and other targeted/special phonathons; managing budgets within the university and privately funded foundation accounts; assisting with special projects, scheduling and managing the UAM Alumni Association Board; and, performing other duties as required.

Job will involve some work at nights and on weekends and may include overnight travel. Job may involve the supervision of other employees.

Qualifications:

A baccalaureate degree, preferably with a major or minor in business, communication, public relations, marketing, administration, or related field; plus three years of professional experience in program administration, communications, fundraising, public relations, event planning or related area. Successful candidate must have: excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational and planning skills; the ability and desire to implement a plan and carry it to completion; strong analytical skills and ability to effectively interpret and communicate results and to draw conclusions; individual initiative and ability to independently plan, organize, coordinate and perform work; and, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Successful candidate must be: very attentive to detail, confidential, willing and able to work in a harmonious team environment, self-motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, gregarious, and polite. Successful applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and be very knowledgeable of and have experience with social media. A graduate of UAM is preferred. This position is security sensitive; criminal and other background checks may be conducted on successful candidate.
