LOCATION:

The Partnership team works in a hybrid capacity. This position is expected to be in schools 40-80% of the time (2-4 days/week), with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA. School sites are based in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a Director of Advanced Math and Sciences, K-PhD. The Director will lead the effort to implement and deepen our vision for supporting math students through a Kindergarten-to-PhD (K-PhD) pipeline initiative across the 20 Partnership schools. The Director will support schools and teachers with ongoing program implementation that positions students for successful completion of a graduate degree in mathematics, engineering, or computer programming. In collaboration with the Vice President of School Transformation, Mathematics, the Director will manage and implement strategic planning of the K-PhD program, and support additional academic initiatives. This is a full-time, year-round position.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management & Implementation (40%)

  • Execute and expand a multi-year project plan designed to build network-wide systems and culture to provide top math students with the support and experiences they need to attain a PhD in math, computer science, or engineering fields

  • Collaborate with and coach principals, coordinators, and teachers to build Site Plans to meet the criteria of the Partnership K-PhD program

  • Provide technical assistance to K-PhD school site program leaders in program design, implementation, and culture-building

  • Model instructional and culture-building lessons with students and educators to support program implementation, as needed

  • Showcase the work of the program to influence LAUSD's enrichment program strategy

Cultivate Teacher Leadership (40%)

  • Design and implement professional development for K-PhD Teacher Leader role seminars and provide field coaching and technical assistance support

  • Support Teacher Leaders with implementing K-PhD Site Plans across Partnership schools

  • Work directly with teacher leaders to progress monitor their K-PhD program which includes utilizing the K-PhD Student Survey

Data & Impact (10%)

  • Facilitate ongoing data inquiries to determine program progress and needs of school site program initiatives

  • Support school and teacher leaders in analyzing and responding to data on program success and barriers

  • Conduct observations and use data to provide the site and program leaders with formative feedback

Partner Management & Collaboration (10%)

  • Maintain relationships with funders and work closely with the Development team to fundraise for the K-PhD program

  • Collaborate and manage relationships with key partners to build support systems in their work with schools such as BEAM, AoPS, STEM to the Future, and MESA

  • Support one on one with families by connecting families to appropriate partners

  • Collaborate with partner programs to support coursework design and curriculum implementation

POSITION FIRST-YEAR PRIORITIES

  • Understand the K-PhD Handbook to understand the history of the program and supports provided to school administrators and teacher leaders

  • Support existing enrichment programs at 12 schools collaborating with respective school administrators and the teacher leaders

  • Internalize the grant deliverables and KPIs and use this to build out 1:1 cohort supports for students and families

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of successful full-time teaching experience preferred

  • At least 2 years of successful leadership experience within the school context (coach, department chair, BTSA coach, peer observer, etc.) preferred

  • Bachelors degree required with area of study in advanced degree related to math, engineering, or science

  • An earned master's degree or advanced degree related to math, engineering, sciences and/or teaching preferred

  • Experience in an advance math, engineering, or science pathway in their career as a student

  • Experience developing and implementing advanced math and science curriculum, such as AoPS, MATHCOUNTS, BEAM Scratch, and Center for Talented Youth

  • Experience managing complex projects and initiatives with competing priorities

  • A proven record of academic success working with students in historically underserved schools and setting high expectations for teachers and students

  • Deep working knowledge of adult learning theory, facilitation skills, professional development design, and coaching

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and build strong working and mentoring relationships with adults

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrative staff, instructional staff, and support staff

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to utilize quantitative and qualitative analysis to support decision-making and use assessment data to inform instruction

  • Ability to travel between school sites and the Partnership home office on a regular basis

  • Experience with Smarter Balanced Item Reviewer and/or Writer is a plus

  • Proficient in Spanish preferred

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting salary range for external candidates is $112,656-$120,704. The Partnership's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our compensation practices.
