Summary

In collaboration with the VP for Enrollment Management, CCAD seeks an exceptional leader to fulfill the role of Director of Admissions. The Director is responsible for effectively executing communications and recruitment plans to meet the enrollment goals and objectives of both the undergraduate and graduate population of the College. The Director leads a diverse team of 8 professional staff to achieve these goals and objectives, and is responsible for their team-members' professional growth, skills development and training.

The Director of Admissions is a highly visible leader, collaborating with peers in other functional areas of Enrollment Management Services, including Admissions Operations, Financial Aid,, Registrar, and Youth & Community Learning to advance the mission of the college also serving on the VPEM's leadership team. They also partner with colleagues across campus in areas outside of Enrollment Management services to ensure a smooth transition for incoming student populations like Advising and Housing. In addition this role often represents the college at recruitment or community events, working closely with students, families, educators and community organizations.

The Director will manage all admission recruitment, application review (including portfolio review), selection and yield activities utilizing data to ensure CCAD's enrollment practices are responsive to changing demographics and are designed to meet the goals of the college. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to access, equity and inclusion through all recruitment activities.

The Director of Admissions serves as a member of the leadership team for Enrollment Management services by participating in strategy formation and execution efforts, and works to manage the affairs of the office in cooperation with other senior-level colleagues. The Director must serve as a role model and mentor to direct reports and always represent the office and the college in a positive manner. This position reinforces CCAD's commitment to the highest ideals of service, integrity and student satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Graduate and Undergraduate Recruitment:

  • Collaborates with VPEM to devise and plan strategy and campaigns to support execution of recruitment, and enrollment for undergraduate, graduate, international and transfer populations

  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure involvement and student engagement through the recruitment process, including visits and communications

  • Assists in the development of and oversees the execution of the department's communication plan for various audiences including prospective students, admitted students, parents and art educators, in order to achieve enrollment goals and elevate the CCAD brand

  • Leads collaboration with Marketing & Communication with VPEM support for print and digital strategies

  • Represents the College at recruitment events on and off campus including Admitted Students Day, National Portfolio Days, college fairs and high schools, some travel will be required for recruitment events

  • Speaks publicly to groups on and off campus

  • Counsels prospective students and families regarding the admissions process and the opportunities that the College presents

  • In collaboration with Director of Admissions Operations, oversees implementation of various Admissions related events and activities, as well as communication plans, query and report needs through Slate.

Management and Supervision:

  • Supervises a team of 8 including undergraduate and graduate recruiters, campus visit coordinator, and communications coordinator

  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and development of team members

  • Inspires, motivates and mentors staff to their best performance ability and alignment with strategic enrollment goals and CCAD's core values.

  • Maintains accurate and current process documentation of all processes, policies, procedures and activities performed by Admissions team members

Financial Aid Knowledge and Collaboration:

  • Financial aid knowledge as it relates to private, independent, art & design education.

  • Works in close collaboration with the VPEM and Financial Aid leadership to develop and implement financial aid strategy to enroll new students; deploy communications and various other initiatives to meet enrollment goals.

  • Supports and trains admissions teams in financial aid counseling best practice to increase yield

Analytics and Reporting

  • Analyze enrollment data and trends for strategic implementation of initiatives that are proactive towards reaching enrollment goals

  • Effectively use technology and data to improve the student journey through the recruitment process

  • Supports the VPEM in producing reports aligned with territory management, counselor outreach and engagement, visit analysis, financial aid, yield and all other areas of the recruitment process

  • Identify and cultivate emerging markets through recruitment strategy

Other Areas of Activity:

  • The Director is expected to be aware of news, developments, and current trends within the Admissions field. This includes federal and state regulations, as well as best practices. News and developments which can have an impact on the institution as well as best practices and trends which can be considered for adoption at CCAD are brought to the attention of VPEM

  • Interfaces with various professional associations including NACAC, NPDA, OACAC, and International ACAC, OAEA and others to further expand the reputation of the college

  • Is able to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision making and conflict resolution, maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all staff, students, faculty, and vendors with professionalism, courtesy, and respect

  • The Director must have the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic and educational levels and skills by using a variety of interpersonal strategies to interact appropriately in situations ranging from large meetings to individual appointments.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed above. Additional qualifications include:

  • Talented and engaging leader with high energy and strong work ethic

  • Experience with Art & Design admissions/higher education

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Experienced, fair and accessible manager who is an effective motivator and team builder

  • Demonstrated experience with analytical and strategic decision making

  • A valid driver's license

  • Evidence of strong organizational abilities, time management and attention to detail

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple duties simultaneously

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Proven ability to use CRM and SIS software (Slate is CCAD's CRM)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required, BFA or MFA preferred

  • At least 5 years' experience in higher education admissions, preferred at an Art & Design, Proven track record of recruitment success with a student body that is culturally, racially, and socioeconomically diverse.

  • 3 -5 years of direct supervisory or managerial experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.

  • Demonstrate vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually normal.

  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.

  • This is an in-person role with options for a hybrid schedule

COMPENSATION

This position is full-time, exempt. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. CCAD offers a benefits package including: vacation time, additional paid time off while the college is closed during winter break, sick time accrual, health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, 403B retirement contribution, tuition remission, free campus parking, and free membership at the Columbus Museum of Art.
