Job Description:

Responsible for the planning, oversight and implementation of the undergraduate admission and student recruitment program at MCLA. The Director of Admission will provide strategic leadership and direction of recruitment efforts following the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education standards to identify, recruit, admit, and enroll qualified undergraduate students.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Office of Admission APA staff members with a travel and file review caseload.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the development, planning and implementation of a strategic admission program for first year and transfer recruitment, including territory/travel management and file review.

  • Collaborate with the Provost/VP of Academic Affairs to develop a multi-year recruitment strategy and annual recruitment plans based on enrollment targets and data trends.

  • Provide reports and admission updates to Provost/VP of Academic Affairs utilizing enrollment and institutional data.

  • Oversee the admission file review process for all undergraduate applicants and ensure that admission practices are in line with Massachusetts DHE and institutional standards.

  • Oversees to the overall enrollment goals of the College, with a focus on increasing and supporting prospective students with historically marginalized and minoritized backgrounds and building and leveraging relationships with partnered schools and community-based organizations to increase student enrollment.

  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, and performance evaluation of the admissions counselors responsible for first year and transfer recruitment. Expected to keep staff motivated and working at optimum levels, especially at peak times, and establish a student-centered culture, balanced with accurate processing and goals.

  • Continual development of the staff with professional development training and education.

  • Oversees the development of on and off campus recruitment events for first year and transfer students.

  • Partner with the Director of Enrollment Operations to develop admission marketing strategies and messaging, including print, electronic and social media outlets. Ensure that appropriate outreach to inquiries, applicants, parents, and other constituencies are maintained throughout the admissions cycle.

  • The Director will be responsible for working collaboratively with the Office of Student Financial Services to assist in developing financial aid awarding strategies to optimize resources as well as develop practices/ policies to enhance new student enrollment.

  • The Director will be responsible for overseeing the awarding of scholarships for undergraduate students at the time of admission. Will serve as the liaison with the Offices of Student Financial Services and Advancement to ensure proper awarding and monitoring of scholarship funds.

  • Work with Student Affairs division and other campus constituents to enhance and successfully implement dynamic and effective new student orientation and onboarding programs.

  • Participate in professional opportunities to ensure awareness of the latest and best practices in college admissions.

  • Represents the College at various recruitment activities, including college night programs, high school visits, high school fairs, and other related events.

  • Performs other duties related to supporting and developing programs to increase new student enrollment at MCLA.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Enrollment Operations to manage the Office of Admission operating budget.

  • Some night and weekend work are required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years admission experience, preferably at Associate Director level or higher.

  • Experience supervising professional staff.

  • Deep, demonstrated understanding of best practices in admission and recruitment.

  • Quantitative skills and the ability to analyze data for purposes of admission recruitment.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience working with enrollment CRM systems, preferably Slate.

  • Ability to motivate, mentor and train admission team members.

  • Ability to work effectively with campus constituents to meet institutional enrollment goals.

  • Ability to creatively and accurately articulate the goals of a liberal arts college.
