Position Summary

The Director of 4-H Facilities is responsible for the management, oversight, and operations of the Georgia 4-H facilities: Wahsega 4-H Center in Dahlonega, Fortson 4-H Center in Hampton, Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island, Georgia 4-H at Camp Jekyll and 4-H Tidelands Nature Center on Jekyll Island. This includes administrative activities related to the centers ability to provide necessary services to guests; fiscal oversight to include managing budgets to fund operations and associated reporting; implementing and ensuring policy compliance; the oversight of the buildings, grounds, and equipment; and supervision and personnel management of five direct reports who collectively lead more than 200 full and part-time employees at the facilities. It further includes liaising with the State 4-H Leader, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Director of Facilities Planning & Real Property and the UGA Office of University Architects for major project planning, budgeting, initiation, and implementation. The Georgia 4-H facilities support the mission of Georgia 4-H with approximately 100,000 visitors annually including 4-H groups, K-12 audiences, as well as other third-party groups.

  • Ability to work within online reservation, enrollment, and event management systems

  • Appreciation and understanding of the roles of the 4-H facilities in Georgia 4-H

  • Obtain and maintain certifications necessary to support the operation of the facilities to include but not limited to: Certified Pool Operator, Drinking Water License, ServSafe, Wastewater License, First Aid/CPR/AED

Physical Demands

  • Frequent work on evenings and weekends is expected.

  • Access to a reliable private vehicle for official duty travel.

  • Substantial travel across the state to visit the facilities and attend meetings at various locations.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision for five Center Directors who each oversee a 4-H facility.

  • Support the personnel matters associated with the employees who work at each facility under the direction of the center directors.

  • Manage the annual performance review process, onboarding and ongoing training requirements, employee certifications, and other personnel related matters and communication.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Oversee the fiscal operations of the facilities. Approve non-routine purchases and guide processes used for routine purchasing via p-card, payment request, or PO.

  • Use existing, and create new reports as necessary, to study the revenue and expenses of the departmental sales and service accounts that support the 4-H facilities for improvements and efficiencies in operation.

  • Prepare documentation for seeking external funding as appropriate, i.e. from grants, MRR, private gifts, etc.

  • Work with State 4-H Leader to determine funding sources for payroll, projects, and purchases.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

  • In concert with Center Directors, oversee the buildings, grounds, and equipment of the 4-H facilities.

  • Develop and manage inventories, preventative maintenance routines, documentation and files, needs lists, master planning documents, certifications and licenses, and safety and compliance routines.

  • Participate in the management of design & construction projects at the 4-H facilities. This includes preparation and signoff of FPIFs (Facilities Project Initiation Forms) and determination of funding sources in conjunction with the State 4-H Leader.

  • Serve as Georgia 4-H representative with architects, engineers and consultants hired by UGA for larger projects where full design documents are necessary.

  • Clearly communicate 4-H interests and needs to architects and engineers for them to be able to successfully perform their tasks.

  • Review partial design documents and offer up suggestions for improvements. Coordinate any possible requirement for testing, archeological assessment, and/or historical preservation review through the Office of University Architects office.

  • Advise the State 4-H Leader on facility related issues/concerns.

  • Create and provide status reports to inform about fiscal operations, improved efficiencies, preventive maintenance, facility needs, and policy compliance.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the State 4-H Staff in support of the overall Georgia 4-H program

  • Attend state 4-H staff meetings, represent Georgia 4-H at county, district, and state 4-H programs and events as needed, and work with stakeholder groups to develop positive relationships with donors and alumni.
