GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the leadership of the Chief Nursing Officer and VP Patient Care Services, the director has overall responsibility for all of the activities within the Emergency Department. Responsible for providing a climate in which professional nursing is practiced. Participates in department-specific and interdepartmental strategic planning.
This leader is responsible for activities relating to quality patient care, decision making, problem solving and leadership functions. Stimulates a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach in the continuous improvement of quality, safety and service for patients. Ensures regulatory compliance of department within scope.
The leader will also be responsible for mentoring and overseeing education of staff and will be involved in quality improvement projects.
Direct reports to this role currently consist of six (6) direct reports consisting of five (5) nurse managers and one (1) clinical manager.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in nursing. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical leadership experience.
Previous leadership experience in an acute hospital Emergency Department (ED) setting at the manager or Director level preferred.
Level I or Level II Trauma Center experience preferred, but not required.
Certification/Licensures Required:
Current license to practice in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
Current BLS/ACLS required.
TNCC, ENPC certification preferred.
Certifications as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Nurse Executive (NE-BC or NEA-BC), or Nurse Leader (CNML or CNL) are a plus.
