The Director of Network Engineering Services will lead a dynamic team that will support QTS's fast growing cloud and managed services business. This role will be responsible for delivering industry-leading service uptime and for ensuring service continuity. This executive will own the operational design and operation of large, geographically distributed infrastructure and systems.

Provides leadership and direction for network infrastructure services. This position manages a functional team of 5-10 network engineers to deliver superior, predictable and reliable services in a dynamic IT service provider environment. Leadership capabilities are required to establish the right balance of people, processes and technologies to meet the business objectives and expectations in a Cisco centric and national carrier hotel environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide reporting on the IT service uptime, performance, compliance and current status of the operational environments to senior leadership.

  • Assesses the need for staff training and cross-training to ensure successful job performance, recommends specific training objectives, and ensures training has been accomplished.

  • Evaluate, procure, and integrate new technology into the overall infrastructure based upon customer and business demands and ensure that these technologies and services are in line with rapidly changing business requirements and expectations.

  • Ensure alignment with Product and Engineering Architecture roadmaps to advance new product offerings, service enhancements and next generation technologies.

  • Drive process across the organization, ensuring that industry standards are being met and exceeded and that the organization is in compliance with customer service level agreements (SLAs).

  • Participates in monthly, quarterly and annual forecast/budgets and financial reporting including P&L and Capital expenditure management.

  • Experience with change management, incident management and other ITIL processes is desired.

  • Deliver recommendations to drive short, medium and long-term performance operational improvements.


  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent professional experience

  • Ten or more years of progressive operational experience in technology management, IT operations management, or other related field

  • Five or more years of experience leading cross organizational teams in a Data Center environment


  • Experience working with Cisco and Palo Alto is required

  • F5, NetScaler and Arbor Networks DDOS hardware experience is a plus

  • Experience and familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools

  • Understanding of network security best practices is a plus

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for assisting in the design, development, testing, implementation, and support of a highly available, fault tolerant communications network and supporting the strategic direction of the department by implementing capital projects that pertain to information management and technology initiatives. 1. Assist in the design and implementation of new network solutions and/or improvements to existing network infrastructure to include documentation, development, testing and deployment. a. Study industry standards and current best practices to assist in the design of solutions that will support Gwinnett County Public Schools' strategic goals and priorities. b. Assist in the planning and implementation of Information Management and Technology capital projects in support of Gwinnett County Public Schools' strategic goals and priorities. 2. Provide high level network infrastructure support to customer service, local school technical staff and other Gwinnett County Public Schools' internal groups as directed. a. Utilize approved tools and technical skills/knowledge to capture network traffic and perform detailed analysis and isolation of potential network and/or application issues. b. Perform root cause analysis of network infrastructure related issues. c. Provide direct support regarding network, hardware, and communications issues via telephone and on-site assistance to level 1 and 2 support staff. d. Assist in developing training materials and delivering instruction as needed. 3. Monitor and perform trend analysis and documentation of the health and operations of the network infrastructure as directed. a. Monitor network health as directed. b. Respond to monitoring system notifications to communicate issues and provide remediation steps as directed. 4. Supervise and instruct Network Infrastructure Services private contractors. a. Provide mentoring and guidance to the private contractors in order to meet the goals of Information Management and Technology and the district. 5. Communicate, analyze, troubleshoot, and repair network infrastructure failures and outages. a. Restore service outages as quickly as possible and ensure students, teachers, and administrators have access to network resources when needed. b. Initiate communications to inform the organization of any failures or outages that may occur. 6. Provide technical documentation. a. Provide comprehensive and accurate documentation of all administered systems including configuration and integration information. b. Provide effective procedural documentation for all administered systems. 7. Perform all duties in a professional manner. a.
