Job Description:

Summary: To support the educational program with specific responsibilities for directing student programs and services. Oversee Family Engagement, SEL (Social Emotional Learning), and Student Services and Programs. Serving as a member of the GCCS leadership team.

Reports To: VP of Support Services and Operations

Supervisory Responsibilities: Other Student Services Staff

Duties/Responsibilities:

Family Engagement:

  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate family engagement programs and activities.

  • Organize workshops, meetings, and events to foster family involvement.

  • Maintain regular communication with families through newsletters, social media, and other channels.

  • Serve as a liaison between the school and families, addressing concerns and providing support.

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and community organizations to support family engagement.

  • Develop partnerships with local businesses, non-profits, and other community resources.

  • Provide training and resources to staff on effective family engagement strategies.

  • Offer support and resources to families to enhance their involvement in their child's education.

  • Analyze feedback from the annual parent survey to improve services for families and students.

  • Develop and sustain a strong Parent Teacher Organization at each of the school sites.

SEL Support:

  • Provides support to school nurses, counselors, social workers and school therapist. Works closely with the department for health services.

  • Provides oversight for behavior intervention and trauma informed care implementation.

  • Determine professional development needs and resources for social emotional staff, teachers, and families.

  • Support counselors and social workers according to DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) guidelines.

  • Support nurses according to the MO Department of Health and Senior Services.

Student Services:

  • Supports master scheduling process at each of the buildings throughout the school year.

  • Compiles data from a variety of resources (e.g. CORE data, homeless, etc.) for the purpose of developing and/or evaluating programs and/or complying with financial, legal, and/or administrative requirements.

  • Facilitates meetings, workshops, (e.g. personnel actions, regulatory requirements, actions involving outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a GCCS representative.

  • Responds to a variety of inquiries from parents, GCCS personnel, other organizations, etc. for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.

  • Monitors monthly enrollment and attendance data that informs the board report, and works alongside VP of Support Services and Operations to provide strategies to improve student attendance.

  • Creates and monitors the system to maintain individual student records and reports of pupil progress. Works closely with the staff member in charge of enrollment and student recruitment process.

  • Responsible for ensuring that GCCS is in compliance with FERPA regulations.

Personnel and School/Community Relations:

  • Works with a school attorney as a hearing officer for student suspensions.

  • Works with GCI Family Services and other social services organizations as necessary.

  • Engages community members and establishes partnerships with organizations and agencies to provide services for students and families.

  • Performs other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the VP of Support Services and Operations.

  • Sets goals for self-improvement; carries out an individual improvement plan developed with the VP of Support Services and Operations.

  • Maintains a high level of competence in the field of education, remaining current in issues related to areas of responsibility.

  • Maintains a high level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Education or related field.

  • Hold or be eligible for the Missouri Administration Certification.

  • Bilingual ability, English required and Spanish strongly preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in education.

  • Experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
