Reporting Relationships

  • In day-to-day responsibilities, the Director, Missionary Services is accountable to the Associate Executive Director, St. Louis Operations, Office of International Mission.

Essential Job Functions

Care and Support

  • Determines, oversees and executes missionary care and support activities and policies that focus on the spiritual, physical, emotional and vocational wellness of all missionary staff (both adults and children).

  • Recommends policies and procedures that aim to maximize the contribution of all missionary staff.

  • Identifies concerns and needs of missionary staff and brings concerns to a higher authority, if unable to attend to address and/or resolve the matter.

  • Oversees, develops and supervises logistical care and transitioning of all missionary staff to and from the field.

Crisis Management

  • Provides leadership in and develops plan to maintain an organization-wide international crisis management plan and intervention which includes ensuring that all staff have access to appropriate security information and are regularly briefed on appropriate security behavior.

  • Makes immediate decisions, based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment through responding to a 24/7 crisis management hotline.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert to the mission fields in the areas of policy, security, and worker wellbeing care through maintaining of positive, dynamic relationships with all staff and partners.

Training

  • Creates and oversees implementation of New Missionary Orientation.

  • Arranges abbreviated Missionary Training sessions for those Career missionaries desiring to start support raising prior to attending a 2 week orientation.

  • Oversees appropriate debriefing process for missionaries concluding their service.

  • Oversees support to missionaries for the attendance of professional development opportunities or events.

Supervision

  • Supervises staff providing logistical support to career missionaries.

  • Supervises staff providing care to missionaries and their dependents.

  • Serves as OIM liaison and representative to Human Resources and Concordia Plans ensuring international mission field needs are adequately addressed and coordinated.

RequirementsEducation and Experience

  • Active, in good standing, member of a Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod congregation, faithful to the Holy Scriptures, and the Lutheran Confessions, and supportive of the Synod's Constitution, Bylaws and policies.

  • Ordained, active member of the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod preferred. Rostered status required.

  • Three to five of years of experience in a managerial/supervisory role.

  • International mission experience or other professional international experience.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to include verbal and written, attentive and active listening, critical thinking, and persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.

  • Evidenced maturity with a pleasing, well-balanced personality and with empathy for people and their special needs.

  • Ability to use discretion with confidential employee-related information and situations while partnering with constituents within the organization.

  • Sound understanding of administrative principles and procedures; capable of effectively and efficiently manage multiple priorities, quickly evaluate complex issues and identify resolution.

  • Proven ability to remain calm and have a calming influence on others while assisting workers through a crisis situation.

  • Ability to understand global conditions and differences to be able to relate and work effectively with personnel.

  • Proven ability to work independently, as well as, collaboratively.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Direct supervision of the work and staff of the Missionary Services Team

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Director of Clinical Services is a qualified professional and is an employee of the Agency. The Director of Clinical Services may also be the Administrator. The Director of Clinical Services participates in all activities related to the professional services provided, including establishing criteria on qualifications and assignment of personnel. The Director of Clinical Services, or their alternate who is similarly qualified, must be available at all times during operating hours of the Agency. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Participates in the development of administrative policies and procedures relating to the Agency. * Directs implementation of approved work methods and procedures that reflect elements essential to rendering high quality care. (Ensures that the professional standards of community nursing practice are maintained by all nurses providing care.) * Reviews and evaluates existing clinical policies and practices to determine if current methods provide the means for professional staff to carry out their responsibilities and achieve projected goals. * Participates in the review, analysis, and appraisal of the effectiveness of the total Agency program * Interprets and transmits policies of the Governing Body to the professional staff in order to insure compliance with policies. * Maintains on-going liaison among Governing Body and the IDG Committee. * Supervises job classifications and job descriptions of professional personnel. * Participates in formulating salary structures for professional personnel, in accordance with community/organizational salary ranges. * Selects and maintains a qualified, well-organized staff to provide care for the needs of the patients.
