Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Learning Services & Academic Engagement, the Director of the Miller Learning Center & Student Success is responsible for helping to advance the Libraries' support and learning strategies for students, including first-generation students, students from underserved, underrepresented groups, international students, transfer students, and graduate students, by developing intentional projects and initiatives that will ensure awareness of library support, programs, and services. Additionally, this position will oversee the general management and administration of the Miller Learning Center (MLC) which includes classroom facilities, study space, the makerspace, and the monitoring and managing of events. Facilitates regular communication with the MLC partners, including EITS and CTL, and collaborates with them on programs, activities, services and initiatives.
Coordinates orientation programming for the library and works closely with marketing/communications colleagues in the library to promote library events, resources, and services. Works collaboratively with the Director of Academic Engagement to identify, develop, and implement a suite of instructional digital assets to help students develop the critical thinking and critical evaluation skills necessary for success during their undergraduate/graduate careers.
This position will collaborate with campus stakeholders to employ user experience and other assessment methods to identify current and ongoing student needs, and make recommendations for inclusive space, policy, and service enhancements.
The Director for the Miller Learning Center & Student Success sets the service standard for the department, encouraging collaboration across teams and creatively enhancing the user experience through assessment efforts to revise and develop new services. This role establishes a framework that provides for team growth and develops a culture of innovation that will allow the department to offer consistently excellent services and support for UGA students, faculty, and staff.
UGA librarians are non-tenured faculty members working on 12-month contracts.
Additional Requirements
Five years of professional library experience.
Minimum of one year of experience with supervising others.
Candidates will be considered at the rank of Librarian/Archivist I, II, III, or IV.
To be considered at the level of Librarian/Archivist II, candidates must have 2 years of professional experience after completion of their master's degree in librarianship/information science, or 2 years of professional experience after completion of their terminal degree in a related field.
To be considered at the level of Librarian/Archivist III, candidates must have 5 years of professional experience after completion of their master's degree in librarianship/information science, or 5 years of professional experience after completion of their terminal degree in a related field.
To be considered at the level of Librarian/Archivist IV, candidates must have 10 years of professional experience after completion of their master's degree in librarianship/information science, or 10 years of professional experience after completion of their terminal degree in a related field.

Administers the department:
Provides leadership and direction for the department which includes Libraries-led orientation, engagement and outreach efforts, user needs assessments, the makerspace, First Year Odyssey instruction, and coordination of the Miller Learning Center
Responsible for strategic planning and ongoing assessment for the department
Set goals and service standards for the department
Establish the framework, and provide the support and culture that allow staff to offer consistently excellent service
Supervise faculty and staff at the MLC including hiring, training, daily problem resolution as well as mentoring, goal setting, setting work priorities, and completing annual performance reviews
Maintain regular communication with security staff, collaborating around building events, classes, facility maintenance
Compile and analyzes statistics and trends and makes recommendations based on those analyses
Leads and participates in cross-departmental Libraries teams, and partners with other department heads, directors and AULs to advance the Libraries' strategic goals.
Represent UGA library as a member of relevant library, college, and university committees, as appropriate.
Supports student success:
Provides guidance to the Emerging Technologies Librarian who oversees day-to-day operations of the makerspace, making recommendations on hours, programming, services, and equipment to ensure it meets the needs of users
Cultivates and establishes partnerships with co-curricular departments and units on campus to enhance visibility of student support on campus
Develops intentional projects and initiatives that ensure awareness of library support, programs, and services
Collaborates with the Director of Academic Engagement to identify needs for and develop instructional digital assets
Provides a few hours of chat reference weekly
Works with the Director of Security and Technology to ensure that the overall facility is safe and that the MLC building is operating efficiently
Leads outreach and engagement:
Provide leadership in planning, marketing, and managing library events that relate to our outreach missions (orientations, workshops, special activities, etc.)
In coordination with appropriate library staff, market the library's resources and services and be a channel of communication between the library, faculty, and students
Coordinate the library's outreach program, working across departments to ensure that outreach goals are established and met
Ensure that audience and program needs assessments and evaluations are performed
Work with student advisory groups on initiatives to improve services and spaces and overall user experience
Stays professionally engaged by:
Contribute to appropriate library and system-wide committees and working groups.
Attend professional meetings, workshops and conferences for training and continued professional development.
Participate in writing grant proposals
