The Methodology Consulting Services Director is responsible for building a successful consulting practice within National Instruments (NI). For us, "successful" means creating a set of services offerings that are global, consistent, profitable, and scalable. The successful candidate will create the systems, processes, partnerships, and an overall approach NI Consulting Services to develop services that accelerate sale, adoption, and expansion of NI products in our major accounts. The Director utilizes his or her industry background and consultative selling ability to successfully create comprehensive services engagements to help customers set organizational goals, rally resources to deliver improvement, and marshal resources to work with the customer to make the recommended process improvements a reality. In this role, the Director will manage the Methodology Consulting P&L through a significant growth phase as NI launches new products and services into the market in the next several years.
The Director is driven, pragmatic, experienced, motivational, insightful, tenacious, empathetic, and inspiring. He or she is equally comfortable discussing business problems with customers, metrics with finance, growth strategy with HR, terms with legal, account strategy with senior sales executives, and personnel development with individual employees.
A strong predictor of success for the Director, MCS is their ability to create internal networks and use them to effect change. Utilizing these networks, he or she is able to build a practice that is flexible and adaptable with the NI Service function as well as the global sales and R&D organization. The Director will build and maintain strong relationships across the organization at every level, ensure consistency with corporate strategy, drive consistency of process across project and customer satisfaction with contracted deliverables, and create an environment of focus and excitement that maximizes acceleration and minimizes attrition.
The Director must be hands-on and willing to roll-up their sleeves as they will also be the driving force to manage and scale the growth of their team within NI Services. This position reports to the Vice President of Global Services.
Develop a global strategy around methodology consulting. Build scalable and sustainable consulting practices for NI products and services. Drive high levels of measurable adoption, usage and compliance to the global standards. Work with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve the methodologies. Assists in the evaluation of opportunities, development of project charters, project management plans as required.
Grow and mentor teams throughout the global NI organization: Influence internal stakeholders and cultivate teams to provide top-notch advisory engagements around the wide range of products and services that NI offers. Serve as an effective evangelist helping sales teams understand the value of MCS consulting, position it for customers at various levels, deliver successful engagements, and drive repeat business. Mentor, coach, and develop team members to drive performance, succession planning, and overall business objectives. Lend expertise to a wide variety of projects and project team members. Construct offshore teams and effectively integrate these resources into the 'normal' delivery motion.
Manage P&L accountability at the project, region, and practice level for MCS services: Beginning with a small team, achieve aggressive growth plans for the organization in support of our customers, sales campaigns, and new product offerings. Determine and forecast the business's growth and profitability as MCS evolves and works towards greater revenues and higher customer impact.
Grow capacity by cultivating partner relationships, capabilities, and business value: Supports the organization in resource planning, management, prioritization and scheduling. Plan and direct the multi-year resource demand plan and work with our Capacity Expansion Manager to meet that demand. Build necessary relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders through collaboration, influence, and strong networking skills to support capacity for NI Services.
Attain a Best in Class market reputation: Build practices that become thought leaders in NI's targeted markets of Aerospace/Defense, Transportation, Semiconductor, and Portfolio (consumer electronics, energy, etc.) Become a trusted resource and knowledge center internally for NI business units. Participate in organizational meetings and events to communicate the vision, solicit feedback and cause positive motion across the organization.
Based out of our corporate office in Austin, Texas, the Director, MCS must have experience establishing and running a methodology consulting or professional services capability within a product-based company. He or she will also need experience in designing, planning, and managing large scale process improvement and deployment engagements. A deep understanding of one of our target markets or of test and measurement or of industrial equipment in general would be a key differentiator. The Director should have strong analytical skills, an ability to comprehend highly technical production/service issues and an innate ability to navigate through people/process/tools issues to continuously improve the operation. The Director should have a deep understanding of consultative selling and a history of evangelizing and utilizing that skill internally and externally. The Director must have the ability to design, formalize, implement, and educate company personnel on what MCS is, how to engage, how to close, how to deliver, and how to satisfy customers.
A minimum of 8-10 years' experience establishing and growing a professional services business within a product company preferably a hardware centric product company, is required. Prior experience working with enterprise scale technology services in a global environment specifically in the Asian and European regions is also required as is recent P&L management responsibility. The successful candidate will also have hands on experience in modern tools, techniques and methodologies for professional services management and automation.
