Summary

Manages and evaluates all mental health service program activities based on company goals and objectives according to industry standards and contractual obligations. Acts as a liaison between correctional officials, public agencies, and the company. Implements all contractually required services. Manages department budget and actively seeks to improve the operational efficiencies of the facility mental health service program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes established corporate and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions and uses sound independent judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.

  • Develops, revises, interprets, and ensures compliance with the rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and philosophy of the company.

  • Directs the work of other mental health staff. This includes the selection, hiring, evaluating job performance, employee training/development, promoting and any disciplinary action, including termination.

  • Ensures adequate staffing to meet the mental health care needs of the detainees or inmates.

  • In the event of periods of being short on staff, assumes the role needed and accepts 24/7 on-call status.

  • Ensures appropriate licensure and insurance coverage on mental health staff.

  • Monitors and takes appropriate action as needed on operational issues including but not limited to the following: use of overtime; issuance of appropriate forms to staff; auditing of mental health files; requests for records, inpatient hospitalizations to ensure early release whenever appropriate; status of detainees or inmates with serious health problems ensuring all necessary intervention and treatment is completed; provision of all required contractual and mental health services; potential catastrophic illnesses and explores/utilizes all avenues of limiting both the company and agency liabilities; pharmacy use to ensure adherence to formulary; strict staff compliance with all applicable pharmacy law, especially those covering controlled substances; supplies, purchases, and equipment needed; physical safety requirements of both patients and staff to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Completes and submits monthly statistical, narrative, summary, and/or operational reports.

  • Evaluates and recommends methods of improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.

  • Obtains bids from a minimum of three providers/suppliers for each ancillary service (e.g. dental care, eye care, etc.)

  • Maintains and fosters external relationships with outside mental health administrators and professional organizations, as well as attendance at seminars, workshops and conferences.

  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and licenses as a psychologist with the NM Board of Psychology Examiners OR master's degree in Social Work and licensed as an LISW with NM Social Work Board of Examiners OR master's degree in Counseling and licensed as an LPCC with the NM Counseling and Therapy Board.

  • Five (5) years of related work experience in a correctional/detention setting preferred.

  • Three (3) years administrative/supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience in health care planning, budgeting and meeting contractual obligations preferred.

  • Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, possess good decision making skills, able to command the respect and confidence of inmates and staff, and philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility.

Job Responsibilities With your background or interest in security operations/corrections as our Officer, you will be overseeing and monitoring the activities of the inmates or detainees in living areas, recreation activities areas, dining areas and visitation areas. You will be coordinating and monitoring inmate or detainee movements, conducting counts and providing emergency response as needed. In addition, you may be assigned to various posts including, but not limited to, the control room, front and sally port entrance, health services, special housing, perimeter safety, transportation, work details, reception, intake and visits officer, etc., as required by management. Additional responsibilities include: * Providing safety in program activities and supervising labor crews in various areas around facility. * Conducting shakedown for contraband materials, either individually or as part of a specialized team; confiscating contraband in accordance to facility and contracting agency policies and procedures. * Initiating disciplinary reports on inmates or detainees. * Preparing reports and maintaining daily logs as required. * Ensuring prompt and appropriate assistance to inmates or detainees in the event of injury, illness or trauma. * Promoting facility cleanliness and reporting need for maintenance or repairs. * Serving as member of special teams to respond to emergencies as required. * Completing training courses as required by facility training standards. * Performing correctional duties for any shift as defined by management. * Performing other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Minimum Requirements * High school diploma or equivalent certification required. * College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred. Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity preferred. * Possession of applicable state requisites for employment. * Ability to work overtime as required. * Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours. * Must be able to regularly report to work without being late. * Ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned. * Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24 hour period. * Work experience in a correctional setting preferred. * May be required to possess valid state driver's license. * Must be mature, flexible, able to command the respect and confidence of inmates or detainees and staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
