Director, Medicinal Chemistry

We are seeking an experienced Director of Medicincal Chemistry to support our the Early Discovery team to oversee the Medicinal Chemistry design strategy underwriting key programs from our Discovery portfolio. At ARTBIO, we couple our ability to generate 212Pb to novel chemical scaffolds which are developed to specifically bind to tumour targets with high affinity. Prior successful demonstration of Medicinal Chemistry design principles in small molecule and/or peptide chemistry programs from Hit Identification to Development Candidate nomination is essential. Experience within the area of radioligand design for radiopharmaceuticals is desired, but not essential. This is a role with a significant expectation of individual contribution. Strong commitment and work ethic are essential.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for designing and implementing lead generation and lead optimization chemistry programs, analyzing and interpreting data from the assays to evolve the chemistry, leading to clinical candidates.

• Lead development of proprietary linker and chelator designs which evolve the ARTBIO platform capability

• Scout and help select external partners for discovery services. Directing and managing CRO's supporting the drug discovery programs. Provide oversight into the productivity of the CROs and budget for the programs.

• Good knowledge of ADME parameters and Med Chem design principles which influence drug-like properties

• Work with patent attorneys to develop strategies for protecting intellectual property, help file patent applications.

• Support the CMC activities (formulation, GMP and non-GMP scale-up of Drug Substance).

• Provide necessary tool compounds for validating new leads, suggest potential new targets/projects.

• Present scientific work at the internal and external meetings, write manuscripts for publication.

• Help guide the research strategy for exploratory and early stage drug discovery efforts, especially in the new target identification and tractability assessment

• Engage in efforts to advance the pre-clinical development of our lead RLT cell assets and participate to IND-enabling studies. Participate in writing IND study reports and IND-enabling documentation

• Maintain detailed records of experiments, analyze and compile data, and present in group and company meetings.

• Partner crossfunctionally with project team (pharmacology, translational biology, etc) and leadership to understand project goals and collaborate on how to best address them experimentally

Qualifications & Experience

• PhD. with 10+ years of experience in leading medicinal chemistry directed oncology Drug Discovery programs is required.

• Knowledge of chemistry, medicinal chemistry (including working knowledge of ADME, safety, toxicity, computational chemistry, formulation, CMC etc.) with a first-hand experience of phase transitions for compounds from early discovery leads to clinical candidates is essential.

• Experience with peptide (linear and macrocyclic) and/or PROTAC chemistry and knowledge about linkers and metal-chelating moieties

• Experience in working with external partners (CROs, CMOs) and securing intellectural property.

• Understanding of the principles of pharmacology and their application in a Drug Discovery setting

• Extensive experience with in vitro biology assays which are used to understand SAR, pharmacological assessment, and Drug Discovery program execution as it relates to HitID, LI, LO phases of drug discovery. Experience in biophysical techniques such as SPR, MST, ITC, etc. desired

• Skilled at working in a multi-disciplinary environment, a track record of team working and collaboration
