Job Summary:

The Director manages multi-channel earned-media strategies to advance the organization-wide strategic goals and brand priorities. This role requires expertise in media engagement, public relations to provide leadership and support across the organization. The Director proactively manages organization's reputation by engaging with media agencies and news outlets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive and strategic public relations program, to include media relations, reputation management, stakeholder communications, and public-facing corporate events as directed by Brightli Executive Leadership and the Executive Vice President, Administration. This includes development of crisp, culturally informed, and relevant messages, timely and thoughtful public relations outreach, and strategic and forward-thinking media relations.

  • Grow and manage a media engagement program that impacts the overall reach and reputation of the organization in a manner that supports continually improved reputation, business opportunity and state or national influence for all services and subsidiaries under the parent organization.

  • Proactively work with news media, and lead similar efforts of other communications team member, to generate positive coverage, as well as assess and respond to inquiries from reporters and coordinate with local leadership and team member to ensure timely, appropriate response.

  • Develop and oversee an effective, creative, high-touch stakeholder engagement program, ensuring Brightli and its subsidiaries are top of mind and properly represented in public conversations concerning behavioral health, healthcare, substance use services, or other Brightli programs.

  • Serve as an official company spokesperson when necessary and be a key leader and advisor in issue, reputation, and crisis management.

  • As needed, report on organization's earned and owned media presence.

  • Manage appropriate media or PR-related tasks of regional team member, including writing/sending of local news releases, creation of local paid/owned content, media elements of regional events, regional earned media reports and dashboards, and more.

  • Develop and lead an executive media training program for the Brightli Leadership Team and Regional Leadership executives. The Director will develop, implement and deliver in-person and/or virtual trainings intended to help community-facing executives more clearly and effectively engage the press and public in a variety of settings and across media types.

  • Help direct the work of the communications and marketing team and collaborate with other key leaders to ensure that messages are aligned, the organization speaks with one voice, and that appropriate leaders, providers and team members can deliver messages effectively.

  • Has a keen executive acumen, able to comprehend, navigate and process high-level business and healthcare conversations with confidence and skill, and then appropriately communicate priorities and execute deliverables from these conversations.

  • Approaches challenging circumstances and relationships with confidence and initiative.

  • Excellent listener balanced with ability to challenge colleagues constructively and stimulate the thinking of others.

  • Confident decision maker supported by disciplined, logical thinking, attention to detail and fact-based, documented conclusions and opinions.

  • Experience working with populations and constituents in a community health or human service environment.

  • B2B public relations experience and experience in traditional media and digital media communications.

  • Significant experience developing and executing multi-channel strategic communications plans.

  • Established relationships and the ability to build additional community, media, social media, business development, and public relationships.

Experience and/or Education Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in public relations with relevant PR and/or media background required.

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field.

Supervisory Requirements:

  • Communicate the strategic direction of the organization and encourage participation by all team members.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all aspects of the department.

  • Actively monitor the identification, development, and execution of strategic objectives.

  • Involve, as appropriate, all team members in order to achieve goals.

  • Effectively communicate changes and noteworthy events within the department or company to team members.

  • Handle difficult situations with team members directly, using appropriate discretion and Human Resource advice to show respect for the individual.

  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.

  • Reinforces a team approach across functions; support and solicit input from team members at all levels with the company.

  • Maintain confidentiality of business information, including Protected Health Information (PHI), as required by HIPAA and company policy.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
