Department Description

The Strategic Development department includes Planning, Business Development, Health Plan Contracting, Marketing and Communications, and other functions that support the UCSF Health's Strategic Growth objectives.

Job Summary

Involves analysis of complex business problems using data to provide insight to decision makers. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets to locate influences. Develops forecasts, recommendations, and strategic / tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge. Works with business and / or clinical units to understand and prioritize data and information requirements.

Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and required / available data elements. Optimizes the performance of enterprise business intelligence tools by defining data to filter and index that add value to the user. Develops business cases to support enterprise-wide business intelligence solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Three years experience in data analytics, business development, consulting, project management or related field

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

  • In-depth knowledge of business development concepts, best practices and functions

  • Advanced analytical, critical-thinking and problem solving skills to assess complex issues and develop solutions

  • Advanced planning, project management, change management, process improvement skills

  • Advanced interpersonal skills to lead and work collaboratively and effectively with multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including ability to positively interact with executives, providers and staff at all levels

  • Advanced ability to develop comprehensive reports and presentations

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to motivate and influence others

  • Ability to achieve measureable results in a diverse stakeholder landscape balancing competing and conflicting interests

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Proven ability to manage ambiguous situation with minimal direction

  • Experience performing complex data analysis. Advanced knowledge of Excel and Power Point

  • Demonstrated success in strategic analysis and planning and strong attention to details

  • Demonstrated experience with large scale program and relationship development

  • Ability to direct and motivate members of multiple project teams

  • Self-motivator with ability to work independently

  • Strong organizational skills, including ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including ability to positively interact with executives, providers and staff at all levels

  • Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with interactive data visualization tools such as Tableau

  • Experience with Advisory Board Crimson Analysis Tools

  • Experience with MS SQL Server or other relational database

  • Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Job Summary Data Specialist supports the Faculty Practice Administration in achieving the organization's mission to be the #1 Health System in Northern California in health care value, patient experience, and employee engagement. This role will report to the Director of Patient Care Access. This role will interact with dozens of data leaders and practice leaders across the organization. The Data Specialist will support the Patient Care Access team gather data and synthesize findings that will then be used to encourage action and transformation. The Data Specialist will independently fulfill data requests, develop dashboards and reports, and make data visual and compelling for various stakeholders. Data is a rich yet under-developed resource at UCSF. The Specialist will coordinate with various Departments and data sources to find the right tool-sets and processes to take full advantage of our data resources. The Specialist will think creatively about how to use data to instill action and performance improvement. This will enable clinical operations to improve access to care, quality, performance, and staff & patient experience, and will aid researchers in improving healthcare.
