The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Manufacturing Department for all North America locations in a Lean Manufacturing environment. This includes leading the Manufacturing staff to achieve the metrics in conjunction with our operational priorities: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Continuous Improvement. This position is responsible for coaching and developing direct reports, and their teams, to support performance management and employee development. The Director of Manufacturing should demonstrate good leadership practices in relation with the Company's values, strategies and People First Culture for the department. They will lead Tier 3 meetings and participate in Tier 4 meetings to drive Continuous Improvement in Manufacturing and improve 5S results. Additionally, this role will effectively coordinate actions with other functional areas, including Maintenance, Quality, Process Engineering, IT, Safety, Human Resources and Finance to achieve Company objectives. They are responsible for creating the annual budget and managing costs to achieve financial goals throughout the year.

This role is considered an on-site position. The ideal candidate will be located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area with onsite work at our North American manufacturing headquarters in Apple Valley, MN with periodic visits to our other Minnesota locations (Lakeville, Hutchinson).

What will you do?

Safety:

Monitoring, coaching and accountability of ensuring that the Company's Safety policies are being fully implemented.

Quality:

  • Ensures compliance with internal Quality standards as well as Third Party codes and standards.

  • Overall responsibility for ISO compliance in Manufacturing.

  • Ensures timely completion on all Corrective Action Requests (CAR) for Manufacturing.

Delivery:

  • Capacity planning (staffing levels, machine availability) to support production volume changes.

  • Allocates and requests resources across the shifts to ensure production levels are met.

  • Monitoring our production schedule and backorder list, making adjustments as required.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Works on projects (CI, A3, Kaizen, etc.) as assigned by VP of ISC to deliver desired results.

  • Owns issue resolution that extend above the Tier 2 level.

  • Leads daily Tier 3 meetings; attends Tier 4 meetings; owner of Tier 3 section the metrics board

People:

  • Decision maker (in partnership with HR) for hiring and termination actions for Manufacturing.

  • Effective Performance Management of direct reports

  • Coaches and mentors the Manufacturing staff to maximize employee engagement

Other:

  • Maintains communication with VP of ISC and key functional leaders on key Manufacturing topics

  • Participates as a representative of Manufacturing on committees, cross-functional projects, etc. as assigned

Seeks out opportunities to contribute to the business success through proactive involvement in team initiatives.

What will you need?

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business or similar relevant discipline (required)

  • Minimum 10-15 years management experience in a Manufacturing company (required)

  • Experience managing a multi-shift, 24/7 operation (preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability leading staff in a LEAN Manufacturing environment (required)

  • Experience leading major projects or initiatives to drive operational improvements

  • Experience with problem solving tools (required), Six Sigma experience (preferred)

  • Proven ability to take initiative and lead cross functional teams (required)

  • Experience effectively leading organizations through change (required)

  • Experience starting up a new Manufacturing operation (preferred)

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

Six Sigma or LEAN certified (preferred)
