Burlington is seeking an experienced and talented litigator to join the in-house legal team in our corporate office. The Director will have responsibility for managing the company's litigation (other than labor & employment) including class actions, commercial, IP, pricing, contract, real estate, and government/regulatory/SEC litigations and investigations.

The Director will report to General Counsel, working with diverse functional areas throughout the company and serving as a strategic partner in connection with litigation risk, insurance claims management, and risk mitigation. They will also focus on litigation processes and procedures, including e-discovery, litigation hold, and records and information management, in light of evolving data security and privacy regulations.

A minimum of 10 years of litigation and relevant experience at a large law firm and/or corporate legal department is required for this role. Experience in IT technologies and infrastructure, data security, and privacy is a plus.

JD from a highly rated accredited law school is required and large firm experience is a plus. Must be a member of a State Bar with the ability to obtain New Jersey in-house certification if not admitted in New Jersey. Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage all aspects of litigation and disputes (other than labor & employment), including alternative dispute resolution methods. Litigation Counsel is involved in all stages of litigation, including: litigation strategy; reviewing pleadings, motions and briefs; and all other litigation documents.

  • Oversee outside counsel, manage litigation budget, and provide leadership and supervisory responsibility for a legal professional.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop litigation strategy and ensure goal alignment across various business teams.

  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to other legal team members and directly to internal clients and ensure the company's litigation is conducted to the highest ethical standards.

  • Proactively work to resolve threatened legal matters through investigation to resolution, where appropriate.

  • Devise litigation-related, scalable processes and procedures to navigate commonly encountered legal issues to help support a growing retailer.

Lead high volume and fast paced development that completes 40+ Downsizes &Remodels per year. Leads the extensive daily operations and establishes required standards for designs, plans, and specifications to ensure consistent execution of projects. Provides functional and technical expertise for cross-department collaboration and in support of numerous company initiatives. Responsible to develop a Vision and Long-Range Plan (LRP) in conjunction with Vice President. Maintain a strategic approach including development and implementation of innovative processes to improve consistency, effectiveness & efficiencies. Establish and manage KPIs to drive business success and achieve LRP. Directs internal Store Planners & Architects to achieve department goals and the successful completion of retail and non-retail projects.
