Department Summary

The UCLA Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Campus Resource Center is aligned under the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs and supports students and employees of all genders and sexual and romantic orientations through community-building events, resources, counseling, outreach, training, consultation, and advocacy. The Center has proudly been serving the UCLA community for over 25 years. We approach our work through holistic, intersectional, and social justice frameworks that honor and empower individuals at their many identities and lived experiences including but not limited to race, ethnicity, immigration status, ability, religion, and class.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Campus Life, the LGBTQ Campus Resource Center Director assumes direct responsibility for the LGBTQ Campus Resource Center and serves a vital, pivotal role in the administration of the Center and the development of its programs, policies, and practices. The Director oversees supervision of professional staff, development and fundraising for the Center, campus climate and policy initiatives regarding LGBTQ+ inclusion, and relationships with key stakeholders. Additionally, the Director provides support, education, and advocacy to the UCLA campus, prospective students, UCLA families, and community partners regarding sexual and romantic orientation and gender identity issues.

The Director oversees a comprehensive range of education and advocacy services supporting intersectional identity development as well as fostering unity, wellness, and an open, safe, and inclusive environment for UCLA's LGBTQ+ community. Through the work of the Center, the Director endeavors to support community members of all sexual and gender identities and serve the entire UCLA community: undergraduate students, graduate and professional students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

Fundraising Experience with acquiring external funding, cultivating relationships with possible donors, and working knowledge of grant resources to support the LGBTQ community. (Preferred) And Minimum 5 years Professional experience working with college students in a public university setting. (Preferred) And Knowledge of university policy and procedures, including policies governing the use of university funds and facilities, as well as those governing development efforts. (Preferred) And Multilingual Ability to speak/write another language other than English (Preferred) Excellent oral and written communication skills to present information clearly and effectively to individuals, small and large groups. (Required) Thorough knowledge of current issues regarding the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender student population. Expert ability to design, implement, and evaluate programs and support services that address issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. (Required) Broad knowledge of social justice concepts, practices, and experience in articulating the intersections of identities. Cultural competency to advocate on behalf of historically underrepresented and underserved communities. (Required) Thorough knowledge & sensitivity to needs of students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Deep understanding of diversity including: race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, socioeconomic level, religion, political persuasion, and documentation status. (Required) Current knowledge of national and state issues impacting the services and resources for the LGBTQ community. (Required) Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population including students, faculty, administrators, family members, and the general community. Demonstrated success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives. (Required) Advanced experience with fiscal and supervisory responsibilities. Knowledge of using key business skills, including analyzing needs and proposing solutions; implementing innovative funding and development strategies; and the management of grant funds. (Required) Demonstrated experience managing professional staff and possesses strong leadership qualities: Proactiveness, vision, being a self-starter, positivity, and creativity. Ability to facilitate difficult dialogs, effectively listen to all points of view and build consensus. (Required) Management skills to recruit, select, train, assign, motivate and evaluate staff. Knowledge of organizational development concepts and practices, performance management models and practices, and career development practices. (Required) Expert skill in listening, counseling, mediating, and referring students to appropriate offices or agencies to resolve problems. Experience with student development, support and retention strategies, multicultural organizational change, multicultural education, and leadership development. (Required) Excellent emotional and cultural intelligence, interpersonal skills, and political acumen to interact with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds, and perspectives. Experience working in a multicultural environment and skills to communicate interact, and work with diverse constituencies particularly in program and service development, implementation, and assessment. (Required) Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture; and skills to understand institutional culture, educational and financial climate, and student trends in order develop strategic plans that promote institutional change. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree in LGBTQIA Studies (Queer Studies, Ethnic Studies, Cultural Studies, Women's Studies, or Gender, Sexuality and Intersectionality Studies) or a related field, or equivalent experience. (Required) And Master's Degree in Education, Student Affairs, LGBTQ Studies, Higher Education Admin, or a related field. Advanced degree required to teach in UCLA's Academic program. (Preferred)
