The US Financial Institutions Group (FIG) covers institutional clients across Banks, Broker-Dealers, Fintech, Funds & Asset Managers, Insurance Companies, and Insurance Brokers who are based in the US, Canada and Bermuda.

About US FIG Insurance Coverage

The Insurance Corporate Banking Coverage team covers clients within the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) classified as mid to large cap North American Life, P&C, Reinsurance and Run-Off companies, as well as global insurance brokers. The International Corporate Bank provides a suite of transaction banking products including trade, cash management, clearing, debt and FX to institutional and corporate clients globally. The team is responsible for client coverage, revenue generation, coordination and management of credit commitments, in addition to governance of the Insurance relationships in the portfolio. The team works closely with stakeholders across the FIG product suite, Credit, Compliance, Operations, Barclaycard (Card & Payments), and the Investment Bank.

Overall purpose of role

The position is a client relationship management role in the International Corporate Bank (ICB). The banker will represent our insurance banking practice. They will be responsible for delivering a broad range of corporate and investment banking solutions to a diverse group of companies within the insurance sector. The role has heavy emphasis on idea generation and business development. The insurance team is responsible for the coverage of mid to large cap clients across Life, P&C, Reinsurance, Run-off, and Global Insurance Brokers. The ability to collaborate with coverage partners across geographies and time zones is required for success. The role requires an experienced, insurance banker capable of driving business and making meaningful connections with C-suite and senior treasury management decision makers for assigned portfolio. The successful candidate should have strong corporate finance, credit and treasury services expertise and strong transaction execution skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Initiate and maintain strategic dialogue with clients across core ICB platform capabilities, identifying and executing on opportunities that increase wallet share while delivering the appropriate financial returns

  • Collaborate the client coverage efforts of multiple internal business partners

  • Coordinate CIB balance sheet commitments with regional and global partners, including credit and loan syndication teams

  • Strictly comply with all regulatory and Barclays rules, policies, and procedures

  • Make an active contribution to Barclays International's culture and community at a local, regional and national level

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Ability to operate at all levels of the internal and external stakeholder base

  • Provide cultural leadership through recognizing and valuing differences

  • Key internal stakeholders include ICB leadership team, global CIB FIG leadership team, Heads of Product, Investment Banking Coverage and Cards & Payments leadership, risk, compliance, servicing and operations

  • Key external stakeholders include clients, external industry bodies, media

  • Support, develop and coach team members; if required, act as line manager to junior staff

Decision-making and Problem Solving

  • Own, manage and deliver against ICBA business objectives (revenue, cost and broader KPI's)

  • Contribute to key commercial decision making and demonstrate sound commercial judgement complemented by appropriate risk awareness

  • Identify and present growth opportunities to the Head of ICBA FIG and global FIG leadership

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or MBA preferred

  • Prior Credit Risk Accreditation required

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience of CIB relationship coverage, delivering corporate banking products and services to insurance sector clients

  • Specialized knowledge of the insurance sector including financial statement analysis, credit analysis, and experience in loan/trade origination and deal execution to the insurance and insurance run-off sectors

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Salary/Rate Minimum: $190,000

Salary/Rate Maximum: $300,000
