The director is responsible for the following college management duties:

Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to recruit, interview, and enroll prospective honors students.

Collaborate with Housing and Residence Life to support the Honors Residential Program in Grossnickle Hall.

Collaborate with faculty to plan and implement the annual Honors Study Abroad program.

Coordinate with the Registrar to maintain Banner honors student coding and prepare for honors designation at commencement.

Coordinate the Honors Peer Mentor program.

Coordinate the honors-related activities of support staff.

Call Honors Faculty Committee meetings to provide information, discuss problems, and review annual assessment.

Conduct annual assessment of student learning outcomes.

Prepare, submit, and maintain the college budget.

Oversee the development and maintenance of communication resources and tools, including the Honors College web page and social media accounts.

Represent the college on university committees and councils as specified by policy and as requested.

Represent the college on campus and in professional communities.

Serve as faculty sponsor for the Honors Student Council.

The director is responsible for the following duties in instruction, instructional support, and supporting and monitoring student progress:

Serve as instructor for HO 101 Honors Forum each semester, including planning events in the Honors Forum Series and some class-only sessions.

Serve as instructor of record for HO 401 and 402, supporting students completing their research projects and their faculty committees, including by overseeing the Honors Research Symposium each semester.

Coordinate with faculty to schedule honors sections of General Education courses, special topics honors seminars for Honors Study Abroad, and special topics honors seminars on campus.

Conduct student orientation and hold early advising meetings with first-year students.

Hold at least eight office hours per week open for student appointments.

Coordinate honors student advising with navigators and faculty advisors as needed.

Advise students each semester for honors requirements, referrals to academic support and other campus resources as needed, summer opportunities, graduate school applications, and career development.

Track honors students' academic progress and standing in the Honors College, including as they relate to scholarship awards.

Recruit honors students to submit research for state, regional, and national honors conferences and accompany them to present.

Accept and fulfill student grant requests for funding for honors research projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferably, the Director will be a tenured or tenure-track faculty member at MUW and may be from any academic discipline.

Job Description Summary

Mississippi University for Women invites applications for Director of the Ina E. Gordy Honors College.

The director reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Working collaboratively with the Honors Faculty Committee and honors instructors and research advisors, the director oversees the honors curriculum, honors instruction, study abroad, assessment, recruiting, and admissions. The Director supports honors students through academic advising, academic success coaching, post-graduation planning, and presentation of research and works to build a supportive learning community, especially for the Residential Honors Program. The Director will work on a ten-month contract and supervises and manages the daily operations of the Honors College.

The Director will receive a $10,000 annual stipend and a two course reduction per academic semester (2/2 load). The appointment will begin August 1, 2024, and is ten months with some additional summer duties for ongoing operations (e.g. admissions, advising, Forum planning, monitoring study abroad). The terms are not subject to negotiation.
