The Director of our daycare will oversee and direct all aspects of the center's operations, including staff management, budgeting, facilities management, compliance with regulatory agencies, and programming. The Director will work collaboratively with staff, parents, the board of directors, and community partners to ensure the delivery of high-quality child care services. Note that the Director reports to the volunteer board of directors.

Responsibilities:

General Administration:

  • Maintain a wholesome, educational, nurturing environment at the center for children, families, and staff.

  • Comply with all center policies and procedures and ensure staff do the same.

  • Hire, supervise and evaluate staff.

  • Complete administrative tasks as required.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community and partnership organizations to facilitate a smooth operation of the center.

  • Represent the center in a professional manner.

  • Attend necessary trainings/meetings and ensure staff attendance as required.

  • Provide training to staff on appropriate topics.

  • Supervise all other staff and make sure all their duties are performed successfully.

  • Ensure that all standards are maintained to meet licensing, accreditation, funding, government, and regulatory agencies.

  • Receive and respond to written correspondence, emails, text messages, faxes, and phone calls in a professional and timely manner.

  • Maintain a professional level of confidentiality according to center policies and those of licensing, accreditation, funding, and regulatory agencies.

  • Hire, supervise and evaluate administrative staff.

  • Represent the center at meetings, functions, conferences, etc.

  • Maintain knowledge of the center's legal responsibilities and liabilities.

Building, Space, and Equipment:

  • Supervise the general conditions and upkeep of the building and grounds, in coordination with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Crawfordsville.

  • Maintain indoor and outdoor facilities to meet the rules and regulations for licensing and accreditation.

  • Maintain inventory records.

  • Supervise custodial staff and contractors.

  • Supervise the requisition, receipt, storage, inventory, and replacement of equipment and supplies.

  • Supervise access to the building, in coordination with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Crawfordsville.

Financial Planning and Management:

  • Prepare an annual budget, in coordination with the board of directors.

  • Manage expenditures and incomes within budgetary guidelines.

  • Review monthly and annual financial reports, in coordination with the board treasurer.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including covering classrooms from time to time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Business Administration, or a related field strongly preferred; CDA or ability to obtain CDA within six months required; high school diploma required.

  • At least five years of experience in a childcare or educational setting, with at least one year in an administrative or leadership role.

  • Knowledge of childcare center operations, including state and local regulations, licensing standards, and accreditation standards.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work independently.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software. Experience in Brightwheel preferred but not required.

  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

  • The ability to bend, stoop, and kneel.
