As the Health Information Management Director, you will direct, plan, and organize the staff and activities of the Health Information Management (HIM) department. Further, you will oversee multidisciplinary operations and staff in support of the efficient operation of the HIM department.
Job Responsibilities Include:
Directs, plans and organizes all activities of the Health Information Management department involving systems, analysis, compilation, indexing and filing of patients' medical records.
Develops and implements health information management systems for the hospital. Collaborates with Information Systems and other HIM management in the development of data standards, quality and procedures as it relates to the Electronic Medical Record.
Facilitates the design and implementation of software systems and analytical methods to provide accessible clinical data for peer review, performance improvement, credentialing and other HIM initiatives.
Reviews department performance in relation to established goals, implementing changes to effect continual improvement in services provided. Prepares statistical reports on departmental performance and metrics and reports results to management.
Ensures compliance with all government and regulatory agency requirements and regulations.
Ensures confidentiality of patient medical records including developing and adhering to policies and procedures involving information security, storage, and retention. Ensures requests for information from outside agencies or others are handled appropriately.
Represents hospital in court cases involving subpoena of medical records.
Monitors and reports on changes in legislation and accreditation standards which impact health information management.
Implements and directs the HIM Committee functions:
Oversees collection and reliability of data produced at all levels.
Reports on and oversees compliance of clinical criteria as established by responsible medical staff.
Participates in the design and selection of forms used in the medical records; determines sequence and format of content of the medical records.
Assures the privacy of patients and practitioners whose records are involved in quality assurance activities.
Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports; and oversees the development, management and evaluation of indirect reports.
Provides education and in-service training for staff as needed. Tracks and ensures staff credentials, licenses and certifications are current.
Develops and oversees financial management including budget, salary, capital, and revenue projections.
Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration or related field, preferred. Master's Degree, preferred.
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification, preferred.
Minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible health information management experience including EMR experience, required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, required.
