Job Summary
UT Health San Antonio is broadening its reach in clinical care with the opening of the new UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty & Research Hospital. This eight-story 144-bed facility will offer uninterrupted patient care in one location within San Antonio, TX, the 7th largest city in the U.S.
Reporting directly to the Healthcare Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Healthcare Finance Director serves as a business partner, adviser, and key contributor to the CFO in the development of long-term strategies and short-term goals through sound business insight as well as synthesized financial information through financial reporting, business analysis, insight, recommendations, plans, and forecasts. This individual is also responsible for the annual budget preparation, monthly forecasting, strategic planning, management reporting, and backlog reviews.
Job Duties
Assists the CFO with driving business results and long-term strategic plans
Develops understanding of financial and nonfinancial business drivers and provides insight to the MSRH finance team on how to optimize performance
Directs and oversees budgeting and forecasting, as well as standard management reporting
Oversees the accounting operations of the hospital, including their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates functions and activities of assigned personnel, including evaluating performance and initiating or recommending personnel actions
Ensures distribution of monthly accounting reports, providing insights and support for MSRH leadership
Oversee month end close process for MSRH in collaboration with UTHSA Finance Team
Establish process to collect necessary data to complete and file the annual Cost Report
Support annual budget process and month end variance reporting
Develop and manage bi-weekly productivity system for MSRH
Provides leadership and governance for timely and accurate financial reports and analysis to support better business decision-making and overall strategies
Work with operational leadership to analysis services lines and create pro formas related to new business opportunities.
Pull data and complete surveys as needed.
Provides key management reports and other key performance indicators that are easily understood by financial and nonfinancial personnel, and presents a summary of results to senior management
Builds financial acumen through participation and active involvement to ensure adequate financial and operational reporting from these systems, using accurate information to run the hospital
Establishes overall accounting priorities and ensures all deadlines are met
Works with other members of the finance team and FP&A team to support other initiatives, including pricing, reporting, and strategic analytics, with a focus on improving margins and identifying opportunities for growth
Directs staff in preparation for results presentation to the finance team
Defines and directs special projects to advance financial analysis and quality of reports to support management decisions
In conjunction with hospital operations, oversees periodic reviews of job performance to ensure financial completeness and accuracy; ensures the hospital is capturing all annual revenue opportunities in all lines of business, including pricing, rates, and business cases on investment proposals with a clear demonstration of return on investment
Provides timely, complete, and accurate budget information; leads annual budgeting planning; investigates variances from the budget; works with the operations team to get back to budget; and reports significant issues to management
Provides timely and accurate forecasting information, supports the rationale for variances from previous forecasts
Collaborates and ensures timely flow of documentation and information between MSRH and all central UTHSA finance departments
Supports all financial audits; coordinates information to all internal and external auditors for all financial audits, resulting in minimal audit adjustments or findings
Assesses finance staffing levels and skill sets to evaluate needs
Ensures compliance with all UTHSA policies, as well as all state and federal regulations
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
Required
Master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required
Eight years of experience in hospital accounting or finance required
Preferred
Certification as a CPA or CMA
Experience in Academic Medical Center
Knowledgeable in 340B
Experience in Ambulatory/Physician Practice environment
