The Position

Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, the Director, Hardware Engineering is responsible for the management and leadership of both the Electrical and Mechanical Skill Centers. He/she is responsible for the engineering design, development, and production support of all hardware projects across our C5ISR and Cyber businesses.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, manage and continuously develop a team of highly skilled engineering professionals and technical managers.

  • Manage the dynamic hardware staffing requirements across the Division as part of execution of multiple programs.

  • Serve as the technical (hardware) liaison at the highest levels of the organization.

  • Responsible for all projects assigned to the organizational directorate.

  • Act as an advisor to subordinate managers or staff members to help meet established schedules or resolve technical or operational problems.

  • Coordinate activities of the skill center so they mesh well with the overall objectives of the business.

  • Must be able to effectively perform line management duties as the Director of the hardware skill center, as well as supporting the technical aspects of project planning and execution where needed. Works closely with Systems, and Software Directors to ensure developments stay on track and to execute return-to-green efforts when required.

  • Assures a directorate maturity of CMMI 3 . Identify and drive improvements in the development process that facilitates speed, accuracy, flexibility and efficiency to positively impact quality, schedules and cost improvements in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Oversee multiple development managers and ultimately responsible for all hardware content on programs.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate(s) will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering plus twenty years of experience, of which at least ten years must have been spent hands-on designing and producing high-speed communications products incorporating DSP, FPGA, ASIC and microprocessor technologies

  • Five years first line engineering management experience

  • Good understanding of Business Development, proposal development and Program Management

  • Proven leader with strong influence skills

  • Demonstrated success in leading engineering development teams

  • Significant well-rounded board and hardware system design experience

  • Experience with complete product development cycle

  • Strong skills in setting vision, direction, developing others and driving change

  • A proven track record of successful high-speed product design and development

  • Decisive action-oriented individual who works independently and takes ownership of open issues

  • Broad understanding of current commercial ECAD tools, usage and productivity measures

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • U.S. citizenship

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

Desired Experience:

  • Experience developing any of the following: tactical data recorders, high speed packet processing or encryption hardware

  • Signal integrity experience desired

  • Previous senior technical management experience highly desired

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering

  • Experience with commercial standards such as NVMe desired. Commercial telecommunications and networking knowledge and experience a plus
