As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will direct and manage a team of launch vehicle fluid systems and component design engineers to support current and future New Glenn program needs. You will set team technical direction requiring a wide application of advanced engineering principles, theories and concepts plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines. Additionally, you will manage associated schedules, budgets, and forecasts, along with building the team and managing personnel and performance. In this role, you will be the leader of the team with impact on all aspects of launch vehicle fluid systems engineering. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. This position requires strong technical and project management

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for employee life cycle including performance management, absence and timekeeping approval, task/project management, training, and providing for career development for the team members.

  • Championing technical processes, best practices and tool development around the focused area of the fluid system development design life cycle.

  • Create and maintain fluid system design life cycle scope Basis of Estimate and schedules, Annual Operating Plan budgets and staffing requirements to include expense and procurement approvals.

  • Establish, track, evaluate and report on system metrics

  • Manage launch vehicle fluid system design and development at all stages of New Glenn development lifecycle as responsible entity for technical outcome including tracking and mitigating risks to requirements and technical challenges.

  • Lead team in source selection for all fluid systems procured commodities including Vendor selection and management.

  • Lead team to develop and document fluid system design for downstream integration with manufacturing processes, quality processes, and operations elements to include configuration management, verification planning, and test requirements generation.

  • Lead team in active involvement in component fabrication, assembly, integration, functional checkout and operations.

  • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers and team members.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings

  • Respond to all facets of customer's vehicle operability questions on launch vehicle fluid systems during all life-cycle phases of design, development, test and launch.

  • Establish, maintain, and report on team safety products, fault trees, reliability, component level failure mode assessments, and operational hazards.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in engineering with a background in aerospace/aeronautical vehicle fluid system architecture and design

  • 7+ years of experience with design, build, test, and operations of aerospace/aeronautical vehicles and components

  • Demonstrated ability of executing development design lifecycle of aerospace/aeronautical vehicle fluid systems

  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams during design, procurement and build cycles of aerospace/aeronautical vehicles

  • Experience in project planning and successful execution of projects to cost and schedule targets

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strength in teaming and collaboration in a diverse work environment, self-starter

  • 25% travel required to New Glenn manufacturing sites

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with CREO and Windchill design lifecycle tools

  • Familiarity with design drawing and GD&T practices

  • Familiarity with structural and fluid/thermal analysis tools and practices ANSYS, Thermal Desktop, AFT

  • Familiarity with cost estimation tools and practices

  • Familiarity with P6 and project scheduling fundamental

  • Familiarity with tooling vendor management of high capital cost and long duration of development

As part of a passionate and accomplished Engineering CoE leadership team, you will support Blue Origin's success through your leadership and management of critical Systems Engineering processes, standards and tools for that your team develops and deploys across all of Blue Origin - including: systems integration, requirements development and decomposition, verification approaches, configuration management, gated reviews, systems safety, and technical performance metric management. The person fulfilling this role will impact the history of space exploration and will require dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities: * Champion technical processes, best practices and tool development for system engineering and product development including: requirements capture and flow-down, preliminary design, critical design, product realization, design verification testing, system integration, qualification, certification, delivery, and operations. * Establish, monitor, document and improve processes specific to systems engineering using Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, and IDOV tools including process mapping, Kaizen, Fishbone, etc. to improve cycle time, user acceptance, and to reduce defects and waste. * Act as the negotiator between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests in order to make sure the organization as a whole is optimized * Work with internal customers and tool developers to develop requirements and implement organizational systems and programs. * Act as a non-advocate Subject Matter Expert (SME) for programs during reviews and failure investigations * Chair/manage SE working group(s) * Develop strategies and approaches for specialty engineering (operability, reliability, maintainability, supportability) integration, analysis and verification * Mentor and educate Blue Origin employees on systems engineering processes and methods. Develop and present training materials.
