Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, preferably in engineering, chemistry or supply chain. MBA or Master's degree is also strongly preferred.
  • CPM/CPI or similar Procurement or Supply Chain certification preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 10+ years experience in a global, industrial manufacturing environment with extensive knowledge in raw material sourcing, procurement processes and best practices.

  • An extensive background in the chemical industry is required

  • Ability to travel

  • Experience with merges and acquisitions and the impact of the procurement function on the due diligence and integration process

Special Requirements (includes Necessary Language skills):

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Ability to think strategically.

  • Fact-based approach with solid analytical skills.

  • Ability to review and negotiate supply contracts including strong understanding of standard contract terms and terminology.

  • Ability to work cross-culturally with subordinates colleagues and suppliers throughout the world.

  • Ability to interface and communicate clearly and effectively (both orally and in writing) across all levels of the organization including senior management.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and SAP.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support GCP's Safety culture by demonstrating leadership as the company works towards an accident-free environment (Constantly)

  • Responsible for sourcing and procurement of $800M per year of spend serving over 50 manufacturing plants globally, including commodity and specialty chemicals as well as MRO and Capital project requirements.

  • Lead the development of value-accretive strategies for strategic raw materials to minimize the total cost of ownership to the company and keep alignment between the procurement and the business strategies, to ensure deliverables of financial results. This position requires cross-functional skills as it works closely with sales, R&D, information systems, manufacturing and finance.

  • Develop strong win/win relationships with suppliers that will allow for combined efforts that will take cost and steps out of the process, thereby improving performance and profits.

  • Lead a team of 40 procurement professional around the globe and be responsible for developing a strong and results oriented team, managing cultural differences to coach and develop the next leader

  • Work closely with regional and global business leaders to ensure appropriate alignment consistent with business goals

  • Indentify and drive supply chain productivity across all segments

  • Lead the company's Procure-to-Pay strategy

  • Systematically gather and maintain industry market intelligence related to strategic raw materials

  • Support the development of the Annual Operating Plan and Strategic Plan to meet or exceed expectations (done during H2)

Novartis is actively seeking a Global Head of Discovery Procurement to join our team in our Cambridge, MA location. The Global Head of Discovery Procurement serves as both: A. Global Category Lead for the Discovery Categories (lab supplies, lab equipment and maintenance and outsourced preclinical services), leading a team of global category managers through design, implementation and execution of subcategory strategies across all Novartis Business Units, effectively leveraging Novartis' global scale and position in the market. B. Primary Procurement Business Partner for Novartis' research organization (Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research, or NIBR), ensuring budget-alignment, strategy and productivity achievement for all spend categories impacting NIBR, inclusive of IT/Digital, Clinical, Corporate Spend and Real Estate/Facilities. This role will be tasked with design and delivery of margin expansion initiatives across Novartis, with visibility at the ECN (Executive Committee of Novartis) level. Major Accountabilities: * Accountable for developing and implementing a cohesive, business-aligned, long-term Category Strategy at both the category and sub-category level, for Discovery Categories. * Accountable for developing a project pipeline to achieve business-aligned Productivity targets. Responsible for reconciling "gaps" between the bottom-up and top-down targets, and identifying initiatives required to close any such disparities. * Accountable for the overall delivery of the Discovery category savings targets for all Divisions, following the target-setting process. * Accountable for the overall delivery of the savings targets for all Procurement categories at NIBR. Partner closely with other Category Leads to ensure implementation of global/local strategies to NIBR and achievement of Productivity. * Responsible for developing the category network, and the individual performance management process for all functional reports. * Accountable for consolidating supplier, market, category and internal business data and information to inform the Category Strategies and business stakeholders. * Accountable for ensuring the resources, information and tools are in place for project execution throughout the category. * Responsible for performing the overall category supplier segmentation and identifying key supplier relationships, as defined in the Novartis Supplier Performance and Innovation Framework. Responsible for implementing supplier and aggregation strategies via top-down partnership. * Responsible for defining and measuring relevant key performance indicators for key suppliers in the category, aligned to the Novartis Supplier Performance and Innovation Framework, as well as maintaining, measuring and monitoring the Supplier Relationships. * Responsible for identifying and understanding the strategic and innovation needs of the business, inclusive of new data and digital opportunities.
