The OBU Strategy Team sits at the heart of all key investment decisions and are responsible for ensuring that the decisions we make with our pipeline assets best position us for maximum return on investment and positive patient outcomes.

We have an exciting opportunity working within the Strategy Team of the Oncology Business Unit (OBU) as a Competitive Intelligence Director.

This is a high impact role that requires you to shape strategy and influence critical investment decisions by delivering industry-leading analysis and insights to Senior Leadership and other key stakeholders to ensure a full understanding of the rapidly evolving oncology landscape.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the delivery of industry-leading competitive analysis and insight for a lead asset, using deep knowledge of the therapy area and external resources to shape future-proofed TA strategies and deliver sustainably differentiated brands

  • Member of the OBU Strategy team and Global Product Team helping lead the development of an independent view on key development decisions and brand performance

  • Responsible for being close to the Global Product Teams to allow you to interpret, pressure test external and challenge their critical thinking and assumptions

  • Inputs into the TA Strategy development by bringing robust analysis to all aspects of the science, disease area strategy, development, regulatory and commercial plans

  • Responsible for proactively flagging key trigger events in the competitive landscape and driving work on implications for AZ/Medi

  • Responsible for developing a deep therapy area knowledge bridging from science through to commercialization and covering the research, regulatory, payer and commercial community in the TA

  • Responsible for personal ongoing professional education in competitive intelligence sources / vendors and building an ongoing network internally and externally to ensure the best intelligence is always utilized

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree in life sciences, biological or social sciences

  • Excellent analytical skills including critical thinking and fact-based decision-making

  • Extensive multi-disciplinary work experience in or with, as a consultant, the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry (e.g. R&D, marketing, market research, strategic planning, business development, finance, etc.)

  • Excellent Leadership skills including cross-functional leadership, project management and influencing without authority at a senior level

  • Strong interpersonal skills ability to succinctly communicate complex issues simply

  • Relevant Drug Development and/or Commercialization experience within the pharmaceutical/medical industry

Desirable Requirements

  • Doctorate or Master's degree in relevant field

The Director, Data Intelligence & Capabilities role combines the role of Strategy, Marketing & Execution of the capabilities. You are accountable for developing and implementing an emerging capability to deliver the infrastructure needed and the execution of complex, actionable, big-data analytics that support strategic, closed-loop marketing efforts (Customer, Consumer & Digital) across US Oncology Portfolio (Women's Franchise, IO Franchise, Hematology Franchise, Lung Franchise). The role will use strong analytical and critical thinking skills to development relevant strategy and communication channels based on the US Oncology commercial strategy across 4 franchises. Keys to success in this position are superlative communication, consultative and influencing skills predicated on a strong foundation of data analysis proficiency, Clinical acumen, unconventional Marketing strategy & new technologies like Big data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning etc. Accountabilities/Responsibilities: * Develop a vision for Data driven execution and aligns and engages individuals around the vision * Brings a creative and future focused approach to work; willing to experiment to drive impact to the top line * Support brand teams in the development of strategy, especially the use of secondary data and analytics to support business goals, and high-level design of programmatic needs * Provide brand and market evaluation, interpretation, and communication of results synthesizing key data and insights spanning a host of different sources and types of data * Demonstrate Oncology experience to engage with brand and medical partners to derive and visualize patient journeys, HCP Network, using primary & secondary data * Develop, deliver and execute a trigger platform, leading a matrix team with representation from across the Commercial organization, including marking science, marketing, and sales operations * Identify and implement technology solution to integrate triggers with the sales force execution platform and the marketing channels * Drive implementation of the sales team facing tools that provide insight into the customer behavior derived from secondary data * Drive customer behavior analytics to understand referral networks, treatment influencers, KOLs, scientific leadership and publications * Build insightful reports and presentations that clearly and succinctly highlight the actionable insights combined with business implications/strategic & tactical options * Identify business needs actively and build analysis with foresight * Keep abreast on key Oncology trends and best practices to help solve challenges and capitalize on opportunities * Develop and maintain budget to support data driven execution deliverables * Maintain effective relationships with contractors and other third-party vendors through oversight of the vendor management process Required Experience: Bachelor's degree in relevant field, MBA preferred Minimum 10+ years pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience – Oncology experience required. 3-5 years of primary market research preferred Experience implementing technology platforms with multiple data sources Ability to deeply assess data various data sources to identify strengths, weaknesses, and gaps Ability to work with both application/database developers and sales/marketing to ensure business needs are translated into easy to use and meaningful applications Data source knowledge: IMS, Symphony, FlatIron, or other claims or EMR based data Experience in sales field-based reporting AstraZeneca is an equal opportunity employer.
