Job Description Summary:

The Director, Global Industry Standards, is accountable for directing and supporting the development and maintenance of CFA Institute industry codes and standards globally. The position develops relationships with industry representatives, including asset owners, asset managers, regulators, consultants, industry associations, employers, societies, and volunteers, and works with those representatives to create industry standards to increase transparency, consistency, quality, and cost-effectiveness for participants in the investment industry. The Director of Global Industry Standards also serves as a representative of CFA Institute at industry events, conducts outreach and education activities, and is a thought leader to advancing CFA Institute ethics, standards, policies, and positions.

The position may be based in one of CFA Institute's office locations (Charlottesville, VA; New York City; Washington, DC; London) or remotely in the United States and is eligible for hybrid or remote work. It reports to the Senior Head, GIS and Professional Standards.

Job Description:

As the Director, Global Industry Standards, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Direct aspects related to the development, maintenance, and promotion of the GIPS standards and other CFA Institute codes and standards globally.

  • Drive the implementation of the strategic plan in coordination with stakeholders.

  • Apply subject matter expertise, industry expertise, technical writing skills, and standards development expertise to develop and maintain global industry standards and complementary resources.

  • Identify, recommend, acquire, and oversee the internal and external resources necessary to implement standards development initiatives.

  • Hold technical reviews, collect and respond to public comments, and ensure industry standards produced by CFA Institute are world-class quality.

  • Provide feedback on existing industry standards and generate ideas for new standards.

  • Set project target dates and execute project plans according to agreed timelines.

  • Conduct outreach to asset managers, asset owners, consultants, and media regarding the adoption of CFA Institute codes and standards.

  • Encourage and support CFA Member Society involvement in the promotion of CFA Institute codes and standards.

  • Support CFA Institute and the investment industry as a thought leader for best practices. Maintain, support, and improve key relationships between Global Industry Standards and other internal and external partners.

  • Work with regulators, legislators, and other organizations to support the adoption of CFA Institute codes and standards.

  • Function as a spokesperson for Global Industry Standards and CFA Institute in dealing with media, speaking at industry events, and meeting with industry members and organizations when appropriate.

  • Assist in the development of complementary educational tools and resources (e.g., webcasts, articles).

The skills and experiences required for this role are

  • Bachelor's degree in business management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 10 years experience in the investment management industry, for example, asset management, securities research, compliance, regulations, sales and marketing of financial products, or investment consulting.

  • Minimum 3 years of successful leadership experience with a passion for developing and motivating teams and the ability to work effectively through teams and across functions to accomplish key objectives.

  • Significant experience with performance measurement; organizational policy development and compliance; and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors is preferred.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills; with the ability to distill complex information and translate it into clear actions.

  • Significant experience in a multinational environment is preferred.

  • Energy to put in the hours of concentrated work necessary to achieve goals while maintaining a positive attitude.

  • Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Demonstrated track record of building strong, collaborative relationships and influencing stakeholders across a diverse range of functions and geographies.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities; flexibility and openness are required.

  • Global cultural orientation and working experience; ability to manage diverse and remote teams and/or stakeholders in a multinational environment.

  • CFA charter or CIPM certificate preferred.

CFA Institute salary ranges will vary by geographical location. This role is being posted internationally and does not have to be performed in New York City or Washington, DC. In compliance with the New York City and Washington, DC salary disclosure laws, the anticipated base salary for this role in New York City or Washington, DC, will range between $145,300 and $242,100. Salaries are determined based on the candidate's relevant experience and skills, as well as internal equity.
