About the opportunity:

Working as part of the Global Communications Team, Shutterstock's Director, Communications will be responsible for developing and overseeing execution of the communications strategy in support of business objectives, specifically building awareness and consideration of Shutterstock as a brand for medium and large enterprises.

The Director, Communications will lead the communications team's efforts to generate ideas in support of the communications strategy, find and create newsworthy stories, develop media plans and perform media outreach to support announcements and help deliver a range of business messages to the appropriate audiences. This role will collaborate with our content marketing and social media teams to ensure communications announcements are effectively promoted across Shutterstock's social properties. An ideal candidate is a creative, opportunity-focused, strategic problem-solver who is collaborative and decisive.

The day to day:

  • Serve as the voice of the communications team in cross-functional meetings among management teams to vet opportunities, provide PR counsel and direct communications-related activities across the company

  • Manage the communications team and our respective PR agencies' efforts to identify and develop newsworthy stories around the company that support our short- and long-term communications goals

  • Proactively develop publicity opportunities relating to trends, industry and technological news, advancing the creative needs of mid-to-large size enterprises, partnerships and leadership stories

  • Research, draft and review press materials including releases, alerts, pitches, plans, award submissions, talk tracks and briefing docs for executives

  • Actively pitch reporters and develop relationships with media, as appropriate

  • Ensure effective management of inbound press box emails, pursuing reporter queries and media opportunities in a timely fashion, and redirecting non-PR related inquiries to the correct team

  • Collaborate closely with regional country leaders to guide and support local PR needs, particularly in LatAm, APAC and EMEA

  • Collaborate with, direct and serve as a mentor/leader for Sr. Managers across communications and social media teams as they executive against the global communications plan

  • Ensure company news mentions and relevant competitive news is shared internally to appropriate stakeholders

  • Manage and enhance the development and maintenance of department processes and procedures

  • Collaborate with events, social and marketing teams on trade shows and other events, sponsorship opportunities, engagement tactics and external communications

  • Assist team with managing company spokespeople, and both internal and external individuals speaking on behalf of, or in relation to, the company

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 7-12 years of PR experience, with recent experience in B2B and/or saas

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline and results-driven environment

  • Ability to identify communications opportunities and risks

  • Big picture, creative thinking and creative problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with public speaking and presenting

  • A willingness to embrace change and adapt strategies on the fly

  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational and project management skills

  • Ability to travel

The compensation package offered may vary depending on employment experience, skills, and knowledge. You may also be eligible for our generous benefits package including health, wellness and financial benefits. Compensation ranges for candidates in locations outside of the location(s) below may differ based on the cost of labor, market, and additional factors.

The pay range for this position is below:

  • 175,000 - 195,000 per year in New York

Note: Commission-eligible roles are expressed as on-target earnings (base and commission). Non-commission roles are expressed as base salary only but are also eligible for annual incentives.

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
