Director, Genomic Technologies

This position may be based at a GSK R&D site in UK (Stevenage), in USA (Cambridge Tech Square, MA; or Upper Providence, PA), or in Germany (Heidelberg).

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic individual to join our team as a Director in Genomic Technologies, with an emphasis on platform capabilities in genetics and genomics.

The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in developing data and analytics platforms, integrating human genetic and genomic evidence. They will provide strategic leadership to identify, develop, and deliver platform capabilities to drive decisions in drug discovery and development, leveraging rich genetic, genomic, and experimental/functional genomic data, and utilising best-in-class analytical and predictive methods.

The Director will work with key stakeholders and partners, including leaders across Human Genetics and Genomics (HGG), experimental Target Discovery, AI/ML, and dedicated software engineering team leads, to iterate platform capabilities to meet evolving business needs in an agile fashion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead identification, development, and delivery of genetic and genomic platform capabilities to drive decisions in drug discovery and development.

  • Work with key stakeholders, including leaders across Human Genetics and Genomics (HGG) and experimental Target Discovery, to leverage all relevant genetic, genomic, and experimental/functional genomic data, and to ensure platform capabilities are continuously aligned to business needs.

  • Work with partners including Genomic Technologies, AI/ML, and dedicated software engineering team leads, to ensure platform analytical and predictive methods are best-in-class and are implemented/improved in an agile fashion.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and methodologies in the field and evaluate their potential for application within GSK.

Qualifications & Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline.

  • Deep experience developing and critically evaluating state-of-the-art statistical and computational methods for human genetic and genomic data.

  • Proven track record of strategic leadership, and of driving progress, developing platform capabilities for genetics and genomics.

  • Substantial experience leading software development in complex production environments, including test framework oversight and leading agile teams.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in genetic, genomic, and experimental/functional genomic data, and of applications driving decisions in drug discovery and development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience in a relevant sector: e.g. Pharmaceutical, biotech, health or medical technology.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with and for partners across business lines and functions.
