Amherst has three main investing strategies - Single Family Residential ("SFR"), Mortgage-Backed Securities and Commercial Real Estate Credit, the largest being the SFR strategy. Amherst has developed a unique vertically-integrated origination and management platform controlling the end-to-end experience for both residents and investors. The platform is segmented into four core business units - real estate development, property management, investment management and corporate shared services.

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis ("Director, FP&A") is responsible for all tactical and strategic planning and analysis for the company. (S)he will manage a team of FP&A professionals dedicated to each of the four core business units while being responsible for the corporate level planning and analysis. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director, FP&A will work closely with business unit and corporate leadership and interface with the Board of Directors and other key shareholders.

This role will be responsible for designing and leading the budget process and monthly analysis of financial results, developing and maintaining relevant performance metrics and preparing monthly and quarterly presentations for the Board of Directors of the company. The Director, FP&A will also work to build out technology solutions to improve and enhance current corporate financial modeling processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing a team responsible for all facets of the FP&A process, including the preparation of complex financial models (capital planning and budgeting), monthly financial analysis of results, debt and equity requirements to support company growth and short-term liquidity management.

  • Supervising and training assigned personnel to ensure a high performing, self-motivated team

  • Developing and leading the annual budgeting process, long-term strategic planning as well as monthly and quarterly models and forecasts

  • Partnering with division leaders and senior management to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Company's budget and forecasting processes

  • Implementing new technology solutions to enhance the Company's budget and forecasting process, including overseeing the transition to Adaptive

  • Developing presentations to communicate the Company's financial goals, operating results, historical trends, etc. to the Company's Board and senior management team on a monthly and quarterly basis

  • Reviewing financial and operating results and projections with division management to ensure the Company and business units meet or exceed financial targets

  • Improving the use of the existing budget and reporting platform to streamline how the company plans and receives monthly operating updates

  • Analyzing trends in key performance indicators and performance vs peer/industry benchmarks, identifying and communicating key business risks and opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance

  • MBA and/or CPA desired but not required

  • 7 years of progressive accounting experience plus 3-5 years of experience in financial planning and analysis is required

  • Real estate industry experience required

  • Demonstrate clear proficiency in US GAAP

  • Demonstrated financial modeling experience including building new and modifying existing budget models to accommodate new business lines, funding strategies and dynamic growth expectations

  • Experience with Adaptive desired but not required

  • Experience with Yardi helpful

  • Strong communicator who can easily transition between Company Leadership, Board of Directors, Equity Holders and team members to clearly articulate budgets, assumptions and opportunities for growth

  • Proven leader and team manager who can help prioritize multiple assignments and deliver accurate and timely analysis and budgets

  • Robust interpersonal skills, work with little supervision and attention to detail. A self-starter who can motivate a team without specific guidelines or instructions

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, and meet deadlines in a fast paced and growth oriented environment

  • Highly proficient in MS office applications: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
