Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Director for Interprofessional Education & Practice (IPEP), School of Integrated Health Sciences [R0143050].

ROLE of the POSITION

The Director for Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPEP) is responsible for developing and implementing IPEP initiatives within the schools and programs associated with UNLV Academic Health (medicine, dental, nursing, public health, integrated health sciences, and mental/behavioral health). This position, reporting to the Dean of Integrated Health Sciences, focuses on fostering and implementing collaborative IPEP programs and strong working relationships with leaders from various healthcare disciplines. These initiatives aim to enhance health education and patient care through evidence-based interdisciplinary approaches.

In supporting UNLV Academic Health and UNLV Top Tier 2.0, the Director will navigate a complex landscape, undergraduate and graduate students and programming across different academic units. The Director of IPEP will also cultivate collaboration with regional healthcare and related human services to support a well-rounded, interdisciplinary student learning experience. These roles are essential to preparing the future healthcare workforce to meet the needs of the people it serves.

The Director's primary duties are:

  • Oversee program and policy development.

  • Facilitate inter and intra-professional collaboration.

  • Develop and promote professional development opportunities for faculty and staff within UNLV Academic Health programs.

  • Assess, evaluate, and disseminate outcomes and IPEP best practices.

Additional information about the duties and responsibilities of the position:

  • Work with leadership to establish a designated IPEP office within the UNLV Academic Health initiative with representation from all units.

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop policies that support IPEP and ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to IPEP.

  • Develop a working knowledge of multiple IPEP accreditation requirements among academic health units.

  • Lead in the design and development of IPEP curriculum and learning activities, including an inventory of opportunities for dual degree programs, shared didactics, or other credentials as appropriate.

  • Identify and work with the administration to secure resources and staff needed to facilitate and sustain the IPE office and supervise assigned employees.

  • Explore and engage in funding opportunities for IPEP programs.

  • Form and oversee an interdisciplinary committee of representatives from each health program to collaboratively create the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the IPEP office.

  • Facilitate collaborative experiences among healthcare faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and practicing clinicians (including community partners) to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

  • Plan and execute IPEP events. Assist program directors and coordinators in ensuring the quality and appropriateness of IPEP activities for each discipline involved.

  • Create a collaborative academic environment that respects, includes, and enhances the diversity of thought, approach and inclusion.

  • Teach one course per academic year in areas of expertise or professional practice.

  • Develop and implement assessment methods to measure the effectiveness or impact of IPEP initiatives; make recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with faculty to engage in scholarly activities related to IPEP, including dissemination of findings through publications and presentations.

  • Develop, disseminate, and evaluate interprofessional education (IPEP) modules across the University and the local community.

  • Represent UNLV Academic Health in professional IPE organizations and internal and external events.

  • Stay abreast of current trends, leading practices, research, and advances in IPEP.

  • Provide training and resources to faculty, students, and community partners in health-related disciplines to help identify, innovate, implement, and disseminate interprofessional education activities at UNLV.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a PhD or equivalent from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and five years of post-degree experience in higher education that includes teaching in a healthcare related program, or five years of clinical practice in a healthcare-related profession and two years of teaching experience in higher education. A demonstrated track record of progressive leadership positions and a record of scholarly publication in scientific journals also is required. The candidate must obtain credentials and qualifications prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Evidence of success for management of collaborative initiatives.

  • Experience with the procurement of funding through grant submissions.

  • Training and certification in an accredited healthcare domain.

  • Familiarity with technology and tools that support innovative IPEP (e.g., virtual and in-person)

  • Experience in IPEP that includes mental/behavioral health.
