An integral part of Campus Ministry, Dharmic Life supports this mission by bringing the breadth and depth of the Dharmic spiritual traditions (Buddhist, Jain, and Sikh, as well as the Śaiva, Śākta, Vaiṣṇava, Smārta and Sanātana - also known as Hindu - and indigenous philosophies and practices) to bear on the search for meaning, belonging and purpose for all students on the main, law and medical school campuses through services and retreats, education, care and counseling, and the promotion of interfaith understanding.

Job Overview

The Director for Dharmic Life and Spiritual Advisor leads and animates this work in partnership and with support from Campus Ministry colleagues, university faculty and staff, and community partners. They provide direct spiritual advising and support, and oversee contract support for other Dharmic identities.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to the AVP for Interreligious Understanding, the Director for Dharmic Life and Spiritual Advisor receives support from a shared team of program staff and students, and works in collaboration with other chaplains and staff on the main, law and medical school campuses.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity or an equivalent combination of academic and practical training - preference for a PhD

  • 5 or more years related experience, including teaching

  • Clinical Pastoral Education or equivalent supervised ministry experience

  • Endorsement by a formal body as a qualified spiritual leader

  • Initiation or ordination in one of the Dharmic spiritual traditions, including Buddhist, Jain, and Sikh, as well as the Śaiva, Śākta, Vaiṣṇava, Smārta and Sanātana traditions

  • Experience with - and sensitivity to - the needs of a spiritually and culturally diverse community

  • Ability to work in close and mutual collaboration with leaders of other religious traditions

  • Proficiency with email, office programs, relevant communications platforms and event planning

  • Regular night and weekend availability
