The Director - Finance Department directs all casino and associated venues financial operations, including financial planning, accounting practices, procedural integrity and administration as well as its relationships with banking and lending institutions, Tribal authorities, and the financial community.
Responsible for ensuring that all accounting activities are performed in accordance with all applicable laws, GAAP, Ute Mountain Ute Gaming Commission regulatory requirements, Federal and State regulations, and applicable Compact and Minimum Internal Control Standards, policies and procedures.
Management oversight functions include: Finance, Accounting, Purchasing, Receiving, Revenue Audit, Cage & Vault, Payroll, Cash Management, and Information Systems.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
Finance & Accounting:Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, monthly close of the general ledger; preparation and review of financial statements; reconciliation of all general ledger accounts; and financial reporting requirements to management in a timely manner.
Direct the organization's revenue and cash management, audit, purchasing, payroll, fixed assets, capital expenditures, banking, tax/licensing and insurance activities.
Analyze, consolidate and direct all cost accounting procedures along with other statistical and routine reports.
Act as the financial planning point person for operations and property accounting.
Ensure the integrity of all financial data prepared and processed by all F&A units.Responsible for preparation and review of daily, monthly and annual financial statements, cash flow projections, and analytical reports.
Develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operational effectiveness of the Casino.
Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts.
Maintain a current chart of accounts.
Ensure the timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts for all areas.
Coordinate preparation of documentation to meet IRS reporting requirements.
Prepare annual reports to the General Manager and for Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Authorities as required.In coordination with the General Manager, create an annual operating budget that is aligned to the revenue and expenditure projections, goals, objectives, and strategic plan of the business; develop the assumptions to be used in the financial models for the annual operating budget; and perform forecasting to provide visibility into business results to enable sound operating decisions.
Institute and maintain other planning and control procedures, analyze, report and explain variances (budget v.
actual) on a monthly basis.
Consult with other departmental management to determine the cause(s) of major variances, remedial alternatives, effect on future operations, and problems involving financial planning and cost justification.
Assist other departmental management in the preparation of their budgets and forecasts and promote continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of departmental management on financial issues affecting their budget.Enhance, revise, update and enforce policies, procedures, systems, processes and reporting of the organization to improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the operation to be more useful and efficient as warranted.
Establish standard operating procedures for all units and implement performance objectives and efficiency improvements as warranted for each of the Finance and Accounting management units as appropriate.
Train staff on internal control procedures and randomly audit work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are properly authorized, reported and recorded.Assist the General Manager with ensuring the implementation and maintenance of sound internal control processes and compliance.
Ensure that compliance is maintained with all minimal internal accounting controls and continually monitor and evaluate the system of internal controls with the objective of identifying and resolving any significant weaknesses.
Preserve and maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive financial data and strategic plans in all communication and interaction with individuals and entities not specifically privy to such information.Provide advice from a financial perspective on any contracts into which the organization may enter.Act as liaison and coordinate effective cooperation between finance and other departmental operations.
Liaison for all external audits including financial, compliance and all regulatory audits as required.
Oversees and directs the preparations of the annual audit.The Director of Finance will also need to oversee the Information Technology department for now.
Information Technology:Oversee the Casino's IT department staff and on-going operations.Coordinate with casino management to define, establish and promote the overall direction and short/long term IT objectives of the business.Coordinate and facilitate the identification and acquisition of all information technology required to meet specific department and/or overall casino requirements; and partners with business users and senior management to identify technology solutions that meet or exceed specific business and regulatory requirements.Accountable for ensuring continuity of IT related services and current/future project implementations throughout the organization.Assist in the identification and development/adoption of new/innovative technologies to enhance operation and drive revenue through cost-effective investment in IT resources and technology, including systems, applications, staffing, vendor services, and in-house development.Facilitate the continuous improvement of IT processes, internal controls, and policies and procedures to ensure that all applications, network systems, and other IT assets function properly and are properly safeguarded.Review departmental requests systems enhancements or changes, application software, end-user technologies and equipment, etc.
for cost-effectiveness, value-added and/or productivity expectations, enhanced customer service value, etc.
Facilitate the growth and technological development of IT staff personnel.
