STUDENT AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT

POSITION:Director, First Time Academic Advisement and Veteran Student Services

Description of Duties:Supervises and coordinates the efforts of the First Time Academic Advisement Office and the Veteran Student Services office. Responsible for working closely with first time entering students to assist with enrollment and progress towards completion of an associate degree.

Collaborate with students and faculty to embrace communication and to identify barriers related to student retention and graduation. Reports to the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management.

Supervise and lead the advisement and veterans' team including hiring, training, and evaluating staff.

Assist in the development of advisement approaches for changing student populations. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment for advisement staff. Provide direct advisement to first-time and GI Bill - using students, assisting with course selection, degree planning, and academic goal setting.

Assist entering students with identification of an academic major, schedule changes, and developing a path to graduation. Build and sustain a culture of retention and completion. Collaborate with faculty, administrators, Campus departments, area high schools and community agencies to identify, define and meet student educational planning/placement needs, goals, and objectives.

Work closely with services for students including, but not limited to tutoring, math, reading, writing and computer labs, Admissions and Records, Career Services, Student Access Services, and Financial Aid. Develop resources and tools to assist both student groups in understanding academic requirements and navigating college systems. Address and resolve academic and personal issues impacting first-time and GI Bill - using students, referring them to additional resources as necessary.

Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to veteran educational benefits and services. Serve as a liaison between the institution and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs State Approving Agency, and other veteran-related organizations. Advocate for GI Bill - using students' needs and work to create a supportive and inclusive environment.

Collect and analyze data related to the performance, retention, and satisfaction of first-time and GI Bill - using students. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management.

Supervise first time academic advisors, part-time hourly academic advisors, administrative staff to include student-workers. Work under limited supervision. Receive training and guidelines from the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management.

Minimum Qualifications:Master's Degree. Two (2) years' experience working in higher education with students.

Proven effectiveness in dealing with a diverse employee and external customer-based population. Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook and Excel). Ability to multi-task, adhere to strict deadlines and be attentive to detail and display the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

Ability to work individually and as a member of a team. Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping.

Desired Qualifications:Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling, Education, Student Services or related discipline. Experience in community college setting.

Demonstrated experience working with students and/or academic advising. Record of involvement in leadership development.
