Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC (MFP) is seeking an experienced Director, Envrionmental and Safety and based in Ukiah, CA.
The base salary for this position is $150,000.00 to $180,000.00. Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience. Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.
The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.
The position will develop, implement, and monitor environmental and safety compliance and continual improvement programs as well as policies and practices to ensure regulatory compliance for businesses in CA, WA, OR, HI, CO, and UT. The position requires the ability to be actively participating while managing trained professionals.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage environmental and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and act as company resource/partner/facilitator in the implementation of environmental policies, procedures, and programs as appropriate.
Provide regulatory and technical support and guidance to senior executives, Asset Management team, site management/supervisors.
Plan/coordinate/facilitate programs to train managers and employees in work site environmental practices in accordance with established company policies and local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Institute and manage environmental record keeping under all requirements.
Establish and oversee environmental sampling and step activities as appropriate.
Maintain all process and complete all permit applications for air quality, water quality, and hazardous waste compliance.
Partner with sites in the completion of water monitoring waste reports.
Perform routine audits to evaluate site compliance with environmental policies, programs, procedures, systems, and regulations.
Act as company representative with regulatory agencies.
Monitor and ensure the meeting of governmental regulations and insurance industry requirements.
Coordinate implementation/facilitation of safety policies, procedures and programs including applicable training programs and recordkeeping requirements.
Direct all aspects of a Behavior Based Safety Program, including audits, recordkeeping, observations and communication to employees.
Manage an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), and provide /coordinate training as appropriate.
Responsible for employee safety and hazard communication plans and training (HAZCOM).
Oversee safety contingency plans (fires, spills, emergency response).
Provide training and/or monitoring support for DOT fleet safety.
Additional responsibilities as directed.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science preferably in Environmental or Natural Resources and a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Solid knowledge of Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act among other Federal, State and local regulations. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and policies pertaining to manufacturing and transportation. Experience and/or certification in Stormwater Management is considered an asset.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to regulatory officials, company management, customers and general public
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear; frequently required to stand and walk flat surfaces and stairs; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, may be required to traverse difficult or inconsistent terrain including hillsides and uneven surfaces.
Travels generally by Auto locally and airplane. May travel up to 50% of the time locally for durations depending on business need may fly commercially out of the State of CA. Must maintain valid driver license during employment in accordance with Company policy.
