As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will direct and manage a team of systems engineers, you will set technical direction, and build team members to support current and future engine program needs. Additionally, you will be an individual contributor where you will perform systems engineering assignments requiring a wide application of advanced systems engineering principles, theories and concepts plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines. In this role, you will assist the Blue Engines team with coordination and planning, interfacing with program management and customers, and providing guidance to less experienced engineers on the team. You will support system engineering practices across disciplines and teams areas of system analysis, design, or integrated testing. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for employee life cycle including performance management, task/project management, training and provide tools for career development for each groups members

  • Championing technical processes, best practices and tool development around focused area(s) of system engineering and engine development cycles. This will also include process tailoring and risk assessments for program needs

  • Establishing, monitoring, documenting and improving processes specific to the team's responsibilities.

  • Being a non-advocate Subject Matter Expert (SME) for programs during reviews and failure investigations

  • Create and maintain budgets for systems engineering organization

  • The group manager will also provide direct technical support to program as an individual contributor (80% manager, 20% individual contributor)

  • Architect system design and development at all stages of engine development lifecycle.

  • Respond to all facets of customer's vehicle operability questions during all life-cycle phases of design, development, test and launch.

  • Develop the Concept of Operations (CONOPS) to maintain system architectural design for system analyses, system design and engine operations.

  • Respond to all facets of customer's vehicle operability questions during all life-cycle phases of design, development, test and launch

  • Establishing, maintaining, and reporting systems safety products, fault trees, reliability, component level failure mode assessments, and operational hazards.

  • Direct system design and development at all stages of development lifecycle, requirements capture flow-down, preliminary design, critical design, product realization, design verification testing, system integration, qualification and certification

  • Drive risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost, and guide overall design assurance

  • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges

  • Establish, track, evaluate and report on system metrics

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering

  • 15+ years of Systems Engineering, analysis, operations, or component testing on launch vehicle or space craft

  • Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems

  • Self-directed and balance several tasks at one time

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams

  • Experience using Excel, Matlab, or other scripting language for analysis review and data presentation

  • Experience in project planning and successful execution of projects to cost and schedule targets

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strength in teaming and collaboration in a diverse work environment, self-starter

  • Experience with DOORS or other system requirement software equivalent

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with rocket or jet engine system operations, validation process and risks management

  • Experience with failure investigations

  • Experience supporting proposals

  • Familiarity with P6 or other scheduling software
