The Appliances Business unit is one of the largest suppliers to the appliances industry, generating approximately $750 million in revenue annually, with the #1 position globally (23% market share of a $2.5B TAM). As the modern home continues to evolve and as home appliances and consumer products become smarter and more connected, TE continues to dedicate resources to develop innovative connectivity and sensing solutions supporting the most connected and complex home appliances in the market. The business has primarily locations in Harrisburg, PA and Shanghai, China.

The Role

TE Connectivity is looking for an experienced and dynamic Engineering leader to join its Appliances team as the Director of Engineering and Product Development for the Power and Signal Interconnect Product Portfolio, reporting to the CTO/VP Engineering.

Power and Signal is one of 3 Product Line Portfolios within the Appliance business unit of TE Connectivity with more than $250 million in revenue. We provide components and solutions to global OEM customers in the major home appliance markets. The Director of Engineering and Product Development will lead a global team of Engineers and Technical staff to develop innovative solutions for these industry-leading Appliance OEM customers. This leader will build and lead a high-performing team of 30+ engineers located in North America, Shanghai, Europe, and India, and will have direct responsibility to drive definition, development and deployment of the product roadmaps that will broaden the product portfolio for the Appliances Business resulting in expanded product lines and revenues.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the vision and strategy for the Power and Signal Engineering organization, in alignment with business objectives.

  • Drive Engineering efficiency and functional excellence within the Power and Signal engineering environment

  • Lead a team of product development engineers and technical staff responsible for the success of multiple regional and global New Product Development, Sustaining Engineering and New Technology projects.

  • Develop and execute new technology roadmaps that will create and sustain a long-term high growth trajectory for the business

  • Drive accountability in the organization to deliver results through TE's product development process (LEANPD).

  • Partner with Operations to ensure a smooth transition and launch of development projects into production.

  • Drive cost reductions in sustaining production through engineering design changes, process redesign, materials, automation (including digital factory), and technology updates.

  • Partner with Product Management and the Commercial/Sales teams to develop roadmaps for product and platforms that drive revenue growth and position TE as a technology leader, innovator, and partner to our OEM customers.

  • Meet with and develop long-term strategic relationships with key OEM customers

  • Prepare and facilitate technical briefings and meetings, including tactical and strategic planning with other functional areas or upper management. Implement and manage approved engineering budget and monitor actual expenses to ensure they fall within budget.

  • Providing training, coaching, and mentorship to team members. Drive a culture of creativity, speed, efficiency, innovation and continuous learning in the organization.

Candidate Profile

  • BS Engineering required. Preferred discipline: Mechanical, Material Science, Electrical Engineering. Advanced Engineering Degree Preferred, MBA desirable.

  • 15+ years minimum combined engineering experience with minimum 5 years in high volume product development and launch into production.

  • Proven record of identifying new technology trends, mapping to technology and product roadmaps that successfully generate value long term growth for the business.

  • Proven success in Engineering leadership and proven people leader with minimum 10 years in combined direct reporting or matrix reporting leadership.

  • Able to lead engineering excellence in the framework of a PMO driven, projectized environment. Able to attract and motivate top technical talent and skilled in people development.

  • Strong DFM / DFA / Concurrent Development Experience. Familiarity with Design for Six Sigma, lean principles, quality engineering practices and principles.

  • Strong business acumen relative to project business case development and market analysis, capital management, P&L, and department budget management.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong influencing and motivational skills and the ability to build strong, credible relationships with multiple organization functions (inside and outside of TE).

  • Capability to work in a fasted paced, dynamic global environment with multiple changing priorities.

  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation communication skills.

  • This position may require up to 25% travel both Domestic and International

Job Overview TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems. Responsibilities This position is for a Product Development Engineer on the High-Speed Cable Backplane team in the Data & Devices Business Unit. The ideal candidate would have both electrical and mechanical design competencies, enabling them to create innovative and cost-effective cable assembly and hardware solutions for high speed data communications customers. * Develop custom and platform cable assembly and hardware designs to meet emerging market and customer demands. * Translate internal and external product requirements into achievable product specifications. * Responsible for collaborating directly with internal and external customers to develop solutions which meet both internal and external customer performance, cost, and schedule targets. * Should be able to quickly and easily shift direction and provide alternative solutions based on feedback to original proposals. * Must be familiar with all functional aspects of product design in order to effectively work with quality, manufacturing, signal integrity, packaging, and industrial engineering disciplines to successfully execute on product designs. * Manage / prioritize engineering projects to insure key milestones are achieved. * Develop requirements documentation based on customer inputs, product concepts, invention disclosures, detailed tolerancing schemes and associated print documentation, mechanical and electrical proof of concept plans and reports, prototype samples, product testing plans, test sample preparation, and lead product validation testing through root cause and data analyses work. * Willingness to continuously expand knowledge of signal integrity, high speed product testing, and data interpretation. * Independently conduct complex mechanical analyses to evaluate and predict design success. * Work closely with signal integrity engineers to conduct complex electrical analyses to evaluate and predict design performance. * Develop products using DFM / DFA inputs from core manufacturing / automation team. * Willingness to participate in occasional domestic and international travel Qualifications * Bachelor of Science major in Mechanical Engineering. * Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software * Computer Aided Drafting experience required.
