Position Overview

We are hiring a Director of Engineering, to transform the software delivery experience, providing leadership to multiple development teams, implementing highly available, scalable services, along with leading edge solutions which support the end-to-end software download, installation, deployment, and update experience for the full portfolio of connected desktop applications.

In this role, you will lead diverse, smart, and driven engineering teams to deliver a modern-day subscription experience to over three million customers worldwide. Working in partnership with business strategy, product management, engineering, and user experience teams, you'll be working in a highly visible and collaborative cross-functional, global environment on one of the top strategic initiatives of the company.


  • Grow and lead a global engineering team, comprised of 50 employees and contractors with a budget of ~$7m annually

  • Implement highly available, scalable platforms, along with lightweight, integrated desktop SDK's, that support a highly transparent and modern software delivery experience

  • Recruit, coach and develop a talented and highly motivated team of engineers to successfully deliver the strategic application portfolio from the most junior to the most senior

  • Ensure strategic, architectural, organizational, and budgetary collaboration and alignment with your global counterparts

  • Communicate early and often, building a culture of trust and collaboration between engineers and teams across multiple offices and disciplines

  • Champion and drive best in class engineering practices and agility across the teams and larger engineering organization

  • Drive results through your personal involvement and direct leadership

  • Inspire and motivate team members to achieve maximum productivity and optimal creativity

  • Guide Autodesk executives and business leaders with influence and negotiation to set expectations and manage risks, dependencies and tradeoffs inevitable in complex project delivery

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or equivalent in Computer Science

  • 15 years of progressive, commercial software development experience

  • Extensive experience designing and developing scalable, resilient, distributed applications, with integrated, cloud-connected desktop applications

  • Cross platform applications (Win, Mac, Linux)

  • Cloud software delivery, deployment and management technologies

  • Software download, installation, deployment technologies

  • Distributed data stores, caching, and eventual consistency

  • Observability at scale

  • Deep understanding of scalable computing systems, domain driven design, software architecture, data structures and algorithms

  • Excellent technical understanding and experience in one or more of: C , Golang, Java, Javascript/NodeJS

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services

  • Experience with Agile, XP, and Scrum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successfully managed teams who have built and run a large/distributed web applications and desktop products that are used by many customers

  • Superb skills in identifying, recruiting and developing technical talent

  • A passion for developing, coaching and mentoring high performing teams of managers and engineers; team building and organizational development

  • Ability to articulate technical decisions and roadmaps at a senior executive level

  • Demonstrated experience in adapting and improving engineering best practices across your teams

  • Experience working in a multi-cultural, highly diverse environment and developing a culture of inclusion

  • Excellent relationship building, facilitation, negotiation and level setting across all levels of an organization
