Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
15 years of software engineering and management experience or 13 years with an advanced degree
8 years of experience in people management, including experience growing teams
Experience working with developer and or user-facing products, and experience shipping Android-based products

Preferred qualifications:

20 years of experience in software engineering
Experience building and leading diverse teams, and incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies into team's day to day work
Technical knowledge of wireless networking technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Understanding of complex device ecosystems such as Android
Comfort navigating technical and product issues around privacy and security

About the job

As a Director of Engineering, you will drive the technical vision and strategy for Android Automotive Operating System. You will work closely with Product Management, User Experience, and partner teams across Google and externally to define the product roadmap and priorities. You will lead full stack development teams on Framework, System Software, BSP, Telemetry and Connectivity for Infotainment, in addition to work on Beyond Infotainment.

Responsibilities

Set the technical vision, strategy, and direction for Android Auto Operating System (AAOS) in close partnership with product and UX leadership.
Partner with executive-level stakeholders across Google and externally to ship AAOS.
Lead a team of software engineers and build a collaborative team environment.
Develop and grow talent within the AAOS team through effective mentoring, succession planning, and retention strategies.
